One Piece Eps 235-236 (full)

This was a really big rollarcoaster of a reaction so just a warning that I emotionally flip a few times and i talk ALOT but i want you to see the transition of how i initially react to where it goes near the end. This was a crazy one.

One Piece Eps 235-236 (full)

Thanks for the reactions~ I like to listen to your thoughts and feelings at the end and I'm sure many more of us do, too~

So, well, now you see how the Davy Back Fight, disguises as a ridiculous funny mini arc, was in fact a perfect thematic introduction to this arc, losing crewmates.

PopaLarge

Also never feel bad for rewinding and pausing! I think with a show like this its necessary sometimes Glad you were able to capture the line luffy said before Sanji kicked him

ImperialUrsa

Great reaction AJ, really enjoyed it 👌

ImperialUrsa

I think Usopp was kinda immature, because he was just in denial. Luffy told him that the Marry wouldn't be able to even reach the next Island. But Usopp was disrespectful and thought Luffy just didn't cared. Because Usopp thinks that the shipwrights just don't care and that's why they say the ship can't be fixed. A Captain has to be respected, if a Captain is disrespected the crew could fall apart. Because the the Captain is like the keel that holds the Crew together. He is the person the Crew looks up to and the Crew relies on. So yeah that Luffy was about to say that Usopp can leave if the doesn't likes Luffy's decision was a slip up, but that how it goes. If you can't obey the Captain and disrespect him you probably shouldn't be in the Crew. Even if Luffy didn't had the slip up, he had to make a decision, if Usopp would've kept disrespecting him. Luffy also can't just go and apologies and beg a Crew member to comeback, that makes him look weak as the Captain. Thats what Zoro meant with "That's what it means to be a Captain", as Captain you have to make though decision and and stick with it even if its hard for you.

NinoDonDino

My line of thought is that, the ship is Captain's. So, in order for Usopp to not let the captain 'destroy' t e ship (or something like that), he needs to take the ship from the captain. And dueling him is one way to do that. Also, when I first watch Luffy vs Usopp, I hate it soo much! It feels like you're caught and in deep trouble, so I wanted this feeling to end. It's quite hard to say actually since this has been going for so long and I'm embarrassed to say but when this was aired, I think I'm really immature to understand the value that One Piece tries to bring.

You got me.. I finally got a Patreon to see your reaction to the best One Piece Arc (in my opinion) in full length

Blackseb

you will cry, we all cry reading/watching one piece.

Delorian

Well this arc is what start one piece to be more serious

Morgan Hellström

Definitely one of your best One piece reaction for sure. It’s such a pleasure to see how invested your are in the story and also if you need to pause or go back you absolutely should !

for this arc i recommend 3 episodes per reaction, as it is just that good, and you probably already want to do it

GainingGamer

The pauses didnt bother me at all, Its such a huge dump of emotion and interaction that its nice to pause and think, also thats when you get the most genuine reactions and commentary!

Tim White

These episodes are iconic even measured against other big moments in the show

Trav Heart

AJ: "If we get impactful moments like this I'm going to be happy". He's gonna regret that^^

Nanach

Luffy has to take in I got 3 devil fruit users including myself. He can’t risk it. Also get crewmates like zoro and sanji. They don’t question luffy on stuff like this. They follow

Yanquoi zaza

am alright with u pauseing i like it when u express and all if u never paused how would it be a reaction

MadSwag

I don't think it's about saying the right things or not. There is not really a middle ground for that. Luffy has to make the hard decision, regarding the crew's safety. Usopp criticized Luffy about his decision, but did Usopp has a legitimate reason, though? Also, Luffy did apologize after Sanji kicked him. I understand why Usopp did what he did and I feel bad for him. However, I don't agree with Usopp in this unfortunately. Yes, Luffy said something hurtful and so did Usopp. Usopp decision of leaving the crew is his responsibility. If you rewatch a bit, you can see that he said he has been thinking about that for awhile, too.

Ninnin

AHHAHA this reaction wanted me to demand more videos from you AJ, more like 4 episodes per upload HAHAHA. just kiddin' but it's up to you though.

Xiomara

This is the reason why Oda is an amazing writer, these charters say amazing we can't help but feel emotionality attached to them

KaitouLuminous

Realease moree reactions alrteadyyyyy!!!! best parts of the show

Andrew Napier

Also don't feel bad about pausing the video to speak. It's actually a better decision overall, I think, because there's so much emotional information to be gleaned from every sentence, every phrasing choice

hurryupmode

Yeah this was such a well written scenario, it had been set up for months with every scene of Usopp trying to patch up the Merry. Usopp has been feeling like he's not measuring up to the abilities of the rest of the group for so long. He feels like he doesn't have a cut and dry role on the ship outside of being a good marksman. He's been trying to feel useful by doing things like patching up the Merry, but he knows that he's hit his limitations since he's not a shipwright. He's been projecting his insecurities onto the ship and thus the Merry has mentally become an extension of himself. And the timing of Luffy's decision to move on without the Merry on top of Usopp's two back to back losses to the Franky Family has made him internalize the idea that like the Merry, he too is expendable and no longer holds any value to the Strawhats beyond some nice memories.

hurryupmode

I think everybody was as shocked as you, seeing this end result, but thats what makes one piece so great! In one moment Oda jokes around and the show might seem silly, but then he also knows exactly how to write these impactful and sad moments with his pencile. He is truly a genius, and you got so much more in store. ENJOY! #GODA

jonas eik

don't let Luffy winning cloud judgement. Usopp is 100% wrong here. He told Chopper ( blue nosed reindeer with no friends) he was no longer his friend. He made Nami cry. Worst of all he made Luffy harm his own Nakama. All because Usopp was feeling insecure.

johnny reefer

Yes you are right about that aot eps and btw after a rewatch of that episode it hit harder for me (sometimes rewatches of emotional moments hit me harder) But that and a certain my hero episode were the closest ive gotten.

Aj Rich

Also I've been rewatching your Attack on Titan ractions lately, I just saw the one in season 3 where they had to choose between Erwin and Armin, and how emotional that situation was. I think that's what you were referring to when you mentioned the other anime that almost made you cry lol. I really enjoy your reactions man, you really feel what's going on and put a lot of thought in to things

I V

One thing I understood different AJ, I understood Usopp wants to duel Luffy not to be the captain, he was decided to leave from the start, but to keep the Merry from being dismantled after they got a new ship, that's why he only asked for the Merry as a prize if he wins the duel.

Lucas Prestes

This stuff hits hard. Really shows a down-to-earth situation that can happen to any group of people. One Piece is really good at hitting ya with reality when you least expect it

I V

Hands down 1. Luffy vs RL 2. Luffy vs Sire Crocodile 3. Luffy vs Usopp

DukeSmile

I've been waiting to see your reaction to this and it's great that you are invested enough in the show to feel like most of us did when we watched it for the first time. I personally do not think Luffy is at fault here. Ultimately and despite the Strawhats being more like equals and friends.....Luffy is the captain and his orders must be followed....a pirate crew is not a democracy. This decision was very hard on Luffy as well and Usopp, as the weakest, sees himself in the Going Merry and fears being left behind so he stepped out of line here. As the captain it is impossible for Luffy to back down, because there really is no other choice for the crew and Usopp has basically been standing there in front of everyone, questioning Luffy's motives and insulting him. Telling him to leave if he can't accept the captain's order is already the best outcome on a pirate ship.....most other captains would have killed him or at least kicked him off the ship right away and neither would have been wrong for a normal pirate crew. The reason Luffy and Zoro can't act like Sanji, Chopper or Nami here is because they are captain and unofficial 2nd in command. The others are not burdened by this and can act on their emotions. As sad as it is.....imho this fight was bound to happen the moment Usopp mistook the necessary choice of changing ship with being cruel or quick to get rid of the weakest link due to his own feelings of inferiority. At least that is my take on it. Can't wait for you to see the next episodes.......this arc is straight up fire.

Marc Schrüfer

omg. We've finally reached this point. This never fails me make me feel so broken. It feels so real, especially since we've gotten so far with them. One Piece always left a deep impression for me because of scenes like this and don't worry there is going to be so much more of these kinds of scenes in the future. It's very retrospective.

Amy Chang

The difference between Zoro's and Sanji's reactions through this situation were interesting. Sanji spending so much effort trying to fix the tension; Zoro standing by and saying "that's what it means to be a captain." Both are right in their own way, one trying to protect the crew and the other trying to protect the captain's integrity

Stewbie dew

I knew this was coming and I've been waiting for this. Thank you for a fantastic reaction and discussion.

Welcome to Water 7. The Chaos has officially started.

I haven't even seen it and the comments already tell me it was great

inpax

Welcome to the Water 7 arc AJ... that is all I'll say

Amlet

i just felt so conflicted i like both characters and see both sides. it really had me questioning myself

Aj Rich

Luffy vs Usopp is one of my favorite fights in all of one piece. Not because of the choreography, or the powers and action, because of its emotional significance. Luffy, a captain who is not ready to make the right decision and Usopp, the weak sniper who feels left behind and betrayed. Seeing the clash of their ideals for the first time was amazing and made me break down into tears. Also, I am 99% sure you will at least tear up sometime watching one piece, the emotional moments aren’t even at their highest this point in the series.

PKfire

My friend always says his favorite fight is Luffy vs Usopp, quick and short fight but full of emotions!
