If I remember correctly, I think in the manga Luffy just got Chopper back straight away and the horse wasn't actually captured, but I could be wrong since I read it ages ago. Oh, and I'm certain the roller skating thing wasn't there either. NOTE: I searched it up and yeah, there is definitely some filler mixed in with this arc.

Luffy has TOO MUCH confidence in his abilities and the abilities of the crew, its one of his flaws. He never for a moment thinks that they could possibly lose, so he never is worried about not winning back chopper.

Also Luffy is responsible for his crew but also the crew decided to go and join Luffy's crew too. The old man and his horse were just civilians, so it should make perfect sense that Luffy would choose Shelly and prioritize their safety first. Let me know if that makes sense to you

Not finished the video yet so i dont know if you agree.. What I think the reason is for luffy choosing Shelly back first instead of chopper is because it's their fight and Luffy wanted to make sure to leave them out of it and make sure their safe. Luffy is the one that accepted the battle in the first place, however the wario guy stole Shelly, so Luffy decides to take back Shelly first.

AJ I think you forgot Luffy respects other people's treasures more than anything, and that's why it makes sense for him to choose the horse, the old man biggest treasure first. Also, I'll bet the thought of losing a round didn't even passed by Luffys head

i feel like the thing with foxy attacking the horse in the first place is what started the whole thing so luffy's primary objective was to remedy that first also luffy trusts his crew 100% so he has no doubt in his mind that they won't get chopper back at all.
