Basically towards the end of the Anime Boom (1997-2007) a company named ADV was licensing a LOT of anime titles. At the time they were almost as big as Funimation (DBZ, My Hero Academia, Dr. Stone) is now and they got VERY creative how they marketed and dubbed their anime. Ghost Stories was one of those dubs. The thing about it's popularity in Japan is a wives tales as it was later proven it did quite decently by the parent company felt no need to oversee the English production outside of making sure the main plot points of exorcising ghosts was intact. Steven Foster did the ADR Script and he was known for adding a LOT of (then) meta humor in his dubs. This is also obvious in Those Who Hunt Elves, Saiyuki, Orphen, Super Milk Chan and a handful of other shows he worked on. Ghost Stories dub was a breakout hit right before ADV went under because they oversaturated the American anime market. But yes...the dub does date itself but it still a cult following to this day.

Well when it was getting Dubed it did so bad in Japan they let them do what they want with only two rules, keep the same names and don't change how the ghost are captured

It was supposed to be a horror series, but the show bombed in Japan so bad that when it was brought to the West, the dub company was just told they can do whatever they wanted with it just as long as it made SOME money back. So, this gag dub was born.

nope its not an abridged series... the dub is literally THAT bad. Well I wont say "bad" since it was intentional. Its a parody dub kinda like the english version of Samurai Pizza Cats and Duel Masters. Where they just turn it into a comedy for the English dub and say whatever the hell they want and disregard the story for comedy when the actual source material/subs was actually a lot more serious and dramatic and actually had a plot
And yes it was on tv in Canada not the US, also even if it wasnt a clip compilation youd still have no clue whats going on thanks t this dub lol, youd be just as lost even if you were watching an actual episode lol
