The goal wasn't top 50% in the exam by the way, it was top 50. He wanted to place them all within the 50 best students of the whole school, the threshold to make it back.
That's why it's so hard to make it to main campus - at least if it was top 50% they only have to beat half of the school, but top 50 is much more difficult.

The principal wasn't so much trying to prepare them for the real world by making the divide, what he was saying was that if the lowest 5% are seen as pitiful, then the other 95% will work much harder to not end up like them. That way, by shunning the E class, he can bring up the rest of the school and minimize the amount of low achievers and slackers .

Korosensei might seem evil by how he is a huge octopus with his speed and weird body also with how he will destroy the world if they don’t kill him I still see him as the best teacher that school has helping each student in areas they them selves need to improve

Skipped panel of the manga (could possibly be interpreted from the anime, but still): It was directly stated that the class D teacher watching over them as they took the tests didn't tap his finger against the desk due to impatience or a need for fidgeting. He was doing it in an attempt to disrupt the E class' focus and further lower their chances.
How I saw Korosensei at this point in the show, seemingly genuinely caring individual and great teacher, the whole "I will destroy the earth come march" thing was an afterthought for me. This episode kinda reaffirmed the threat he posed for me though.
