I think like Caleb is saying, Roswaal is following his book, and its stating to isolate Emilia with a snowstorm. While not specifically stated, you could infer that her past being frozen combined with no one being beside her at this time (and possibly having to go through that first trail numerous times while stuck in the tomb) eventually turned her to yandere-status.

I think if they are confused they need to be clarified about that actually being emilia because it was confirmed this episode.

Although I guess it was more likely that Beatrice really wasn't trying to give it her all to actually kill her. But the way it was portrayed definitely looked like an asspull
