I don't really know why a lot of people don't talk about the fact that Luffy is speaking from very personal experience when he tells Sanji that Zeff didn't save him so he could die. His own mentor/pseudo father figure also gave a limb for him, so Luffy would know exactly what that kindness felt like.

The fights before this he had some challenges to overcome (Buggy's Devil Fruit and Kuro's speed), but he still won them ultimately without too much trouble. This is the first time Luffy's gotten to show how much of an absolute TANK he his, taking spikes and explosions and still going. These fights in the East Blue Saga are really good at establishing the different traits Luffy has in a fight. Power, endurance, and good battle instincts. I would almost consider this one of my favorite Luffy fights, if not for the issue that I think Don Krieg himself is pretty boring.

2020-05-04 12:17:37 +0000 UTCFun Fact: Devil Fruits affect the user's whole body, so since Luffy ate the gomu gomu no-mi ( Rubber fruit ) it means that even his organs are rubber which includes his heart and even his brain. It explains why he's so dumb 😂

He is like if Goku didn't have the shittier personality flaws he has while also having 1000% more character development beyond "I wAnNa FiGhT!!!!" Which is high praise seeing as how he's my second favorite straw hat pirate.
