It's a show that when you rewatch it, so much more makes sense

ALSO! If you go back and watch the episode when its officially revealed that Annie is the Female Titan, just before she transforms, she talks about having failed to be a "warrior"... I believe if you had caught that when it happened (it seems you didn't, but no worries, not many people seem to do so) then you wouldn't have been surprised about Bertholdt's and Reiner's true identities later on. This show is great at blatantly throwing hints at your face of what's to happen, but at the same time doing it in such a way that viewers cannot put 2 and 2 together.

If you rewatch the show, all the scenes with Bertholdt and Reiner, you can tell that Bertholdt always seemed kind of distant for whatever reason, i.e. he just sort of non nonchalantly went with things in order to stick together with Reiner... Reiner on the other side seemed to be really into being a soldier and a member of the Survey Corps, until he finally seemed to have snap out of it. This tells you that Reiner was conflicted with his duty as a "warrior" (whatever that means :p), and that of being a soldier... go over his dialogue before he and Bertholdt transforms, and its clear that he was someone who was clearly in conflict with himself and it was traumatizing him... you will learn more about Reiner and Bertholdt as the story goes on of course :)
