Shirase the girl is likely named after either the glacier as well, or the man who discovered the glacier. Shirase Nobu, the leader of the first Japanese Antarctic Expedition. Of course it's also possible she's named after the ship! There are so many Shirases when it comes to Antarctica!

And yes, Jacob, there'll probably at least one scene in each episode that will melt your eyes xD It's just a joy to watch. A visual feast.
