This really episode shows how to properly do anime original additions. In the novels the fight was just Shadow vs. Beatrix, it was quite short, never leaving the arena and Iris only joined in at the very end with her suicidal charge. They managed to give us a proper fight to go out with a bang while still making it clear that it only lasted that long because Shadow let it last that long. Season 2 was already confirmed to be in production, there was even a short PV. The rest is just me rambling a bit, read it if your interested, ignore it if not. FYI according to the novel high end mithril gear, like the sword Iris used, conducts mana/magic at 50% efficiency, the slime Shadow garden uses conducts at 99% efficiency. So you could argue he and all of Shadow Garden are basically using borderline artifacts whenever using their slime. Also as for why Iris is mad, he is a vigilante that does what he wants and and because he wants to role play he just ruined any chances for her to gain the backing of the people & Knights and get anything done for her Kingdom. Also remember that he casually nuked the capital giving no regard for anyone's lives (yes there was an evacuation going on, but that evacuation was done by the Knights under Iris command, Shadow didn't know and didn't care). Furthermore there is the fact that there was also evidence prepared to indite shadow Garden for the attack on the school. Also the Sacred Land of Lindwurm was completely flooded by him, and there was no evacuation before that. Based on the information available Shadow at this point is a wanted mass murderer, kidnapper, arsonist, robber and terrorist. Basically he is messing up her life and Kingdom quite a bit just because he wants to role play, like there is no real meaning behind his actions, he just does what he thinks would be cool and fitting for his role play consequences or people caught up in it be damned. It just so happens that much of the things he does happen to work out well by pure coincidence and because of the girls working behind the scenes. But well that's why he makes it clear right from the start, what he aspires to be is neither the Hero nor the Villain.

Season 2 was confirmed back in February. Some rumors say it will come out in Fall but that seems like wishful thinking. Winter or Spring 24 seems more likely.

Season 2 was confirmed a week after ep 20 aired. There's a teaser on YouTube. Also seems like "HiDive" the official streaming site confirmed Season 2 for a 2023 release
