Yes, Starto/Johnny groups are also trained as actors, so they perform in tv shows, movies and plays. As Juniors, they're usually on teams and they perform original songs and do acting(that's how they build an audience up) but it's no guarantee that they'll formally debut. And in Japan, songs are frequently attached to movies, tv shows and commercials(called "tie-ups"). It's on a larger scale compared to America and Korea. Some of those songs are specifically made for those shows/movies and some aren't.
