Daily Short: Kyo 16

It was the worst one, that of other consumers of tasty things. It was a short spot of effort to make more mana crystals in the lab before the older female and her group departed. Kyo noticed how Sene pretended not to pay attention to Nota as she floated nearby. Talos had checked that the gate was secure after their exit and then proceeded to his most important mission.
Sitting on a stool, Kyo watched as the bacon and sausage were cooked in oil and grease before being layered with cheese. Strange sliced greens were put along with the eggs and toast. Even though it wasn’t breakfast, Talos had repeated the same meal out of laziness. She didn’t care, though. The meat was meat!
Meat, meat, meat! Kyo sang gleefully in her head. She had never had such delicious beef before. Salted four-leg wasn’t as tasty, and skewered flying rats were nowhere as good either. All I have to do is make sparkly crystals to be in heaven!
After the beautiful meal, Kyo collected the dishes and placed them in the sink like breakfast. It was time for her to do something different today!
Floating up with Nota, she took the green pathway to the lab again. This time she wasn’t going to be making mana crystals. Instead, it was time to do experimental potions!
The last two potions Kyo had made exploded, but that was not her fault. She’d been in a hurry and hadn’t had time to measure everything correctly. Now that something wasn’t interrupting her, it was time first to practice one of the potions Kudzu recommended.
The Spirit Walk potion.
The reason for this one is rather apparent. It will allow me to enter the special place more effortlessly and often. Kyo thought as she donned her miniature protective goggles, lab coat, gloves, and other gear. Talos acted as a trustworthy assistant preparing the small step stools so she could easily reach everything. Once the primary ingredients were arrayed on her lab table, she smiled.
Alchemy, true alchemy, could uplift any civilization, according to Kudzu. The great green Patron claimed that the Silver Empire had thrived due to alchemy. Kyo, however, wasn’t allured by such things. At least, not as much as she was to the idea of endless mountains of spiced food.
Indeed, after eating so well for the last few days, her priorities in alchemy had shifted just a tad. The idea of food flavored by arcane spice hadn’t left her mind for a moment.
What if I could make sausages and bacon…better? Kyo’s mind blazed with fireworks. She could make everything tastier, even vegetables!
“You are drooling,” Talos observed from a safe distance. Kyo snapped out of her daze and wiped the drool on her sleeve.
“Commencing preparatory steps one through eight,” Kyo said, glaring at Talos for ruining her crunchy dream. Powders were measured with Plant Manipulation IV assistance. The senses of the vines in the lab were perfect for fractions Kyo couldn’t ascertain. Even mechanical scales weren’t as accurate as her vine allies.
Once the powder chemicals were prepared, she infused mana into the pure water. Mixing the powders gave a purple potion. Three copper orbs the size of small marbles were dropped inside the potion’s flask. There was a sizzling sound, and the copper disintegrated in a flash. Watching the color change from purple to pink, Kyo added mana in a three-to-two ratio. The sizzling grew sharper before falling off. No longer did the potion look like it was reacting. Instead, it was a mild pink liquid.
Success! Now she just needed to test it on a suitable subject.
Looking around the room, there were only Talos, Nota, and Mr. Clay who could assist her.
Ah! If she’d just kept Sene’s group around…
