The world is filled with idiots and genius, with only results from separating one from the other.
-Alchemist of the Flask, Malachite
“Oops!” Kyo said as the bubbling flask started to glow brightly. Sene leaped into action, grabbing the mixture and throwing it towards a hole in the wall. There was a moment of silence as the darkened hole in the wall glowed with the light of a burning son. Kyo heard a crack as if the old stone was shattering under a weighted strike. Heat blazed up from the potion disposal location before banking down to nothing again.
Sene looked at Kyo and said, “Let’s not mix things until your Patron gives you a bit more training, agreed?”
Kyo’s ears and tail drooped as she said, “Agreed.” Drat, that mixture for ruining her chances of experimenting!
Talos looked unconcerned at the affair, as if it was just another day in the shop chopping meat. Once the two extracted a firm promise from Kyo, they turned to the moss tray. This lab was an expensive investment on Lion’s part. If she couldn’t produce mana crystals, everyone involved would get pretty ugly.
Sene’s eyes widened as the moss spilled off the tray, revealing eight crystalline objects cut to shimmering perfection. Kyo smirked at the older female cat’s expression. Mana crystals were worth almost ten times their weight in gold alone. The higher the grade, the higher the multiplier in value.
Patron Kudzu taught me how to form a crystalline structure for perfection. Kyo thought proudly. Once the design is known, doing something like this is more accessible than eating cake!
“I honestly thought my husband was losing his touch,” Sene said with a soft sigh. She waved her hand over the mana crystals putting a small fortune into her spatial ring’s container.
“As we agreed,” Talos said cryptically before lifting Kyo like a sack of potatoes and moving out of the lab. The kitten watched Sene waving at her as she left in a different direction. As they moved through the mansion, she could feel Sene exiting through the garden with Plant Manipulation IV.
“Where are we going?” Kyo asked Talos.
“To the bath, you stink like a beggar urchin from the streets,” Talos said without expression.
“Nooooooo!” Kyo cried, struggling to no avail. The giant brute of a cat dragged her into the bathing room and forcefully cleaned her. The entire time he had no more expression on his face than when she’d seen him cutting up the daily meat meals.
One day I’ll have my revenge! Kyo thought as she was toweled down with brusque efficiency. Terrible ideas like itching powder, sneezing powder, and even worse flowed through her mind. I just need to bide my time before striking!
Unaware of the doom awaiting him, Talos carried her to the kitchen before setting her down on a stool at the counter. Without any wasted movements, the butcher took care of making a meal filled with juicy meat!
Kyo decided she would spare the evil kitten washer for one more day because of his cooking skills. After the food was finished, the butcher tucked Kyo into a warm fluffy bed. The younger girl lost the fight against sleep dropping off almost instantly.
An indeterminate amount of time passed before she felt a pull and her dream shifted. A wooden table, a wooden chair, and a small shrub in a blank white room greeted her once more.
“So, ready to begin?” Kudzu asked, looking at her.
Kyo noted that he had copied her green bonsai friend almost perfectly. It was touching how the powerful entity bothered even to try to make her feel better.
“Un!” Kyo said, sliding off the chair and following the floating shrub out as they headed to the dream lab.
