June 2024 Writing Pledge

We're finishing up the two scripts we have on our plate - the Bleach season 4 finale and UBW:A episode 12 - and it's probably been the most intense scripting period we've ever had. We tried to get ahead on some completed scenes and intended to bring actors in for some recording sessions this month, but we planned them late in the month, and some life stuff on their end caused us to reschedule (which is why we're doing a writing pledge this month instead of doing BTS videos).

UBW:A Ep11 Scene 1-4 Preview

So scenes 5-7 remain, but they're not nearly as much of a handful as scene 1 or 3 were. Figured we'd give everyone a clear preview of the episode so-far since all the existing previews are done (and some audio tweaks/music cues have changed since the individual videos). Anyhow, hoping to see this all done next month!!

UBW:A Ep11 Sc3 Full Preview

Phew! A lot more when into this than one might imagine, especially with getting over 100 new sets of lip shapes done. This scene, despite not being terribly action-packed or busy, is probably one of the most technically involved ones we've ever worked on. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy! Finally on to the final scenes of the episode!

UBW:A Ep11 Sc3 (No Lip Sync)

The whole scene through, this time with finalized sound! It's been such a labor just to do this one scene, despite it just being talking. This scene was the biggest hurdle in the episode, so everything else should come more easily~!!

UBW:A Ep11 Sc3 (Part D) Incomplete

This is the last chunk of scene 3! Once the sound design is finalized, I'll hit you guys with the fully FX'd version. Lip sync for this one is going to be a nightmare, but that's all that's missing from it.

UBW:A Ep11 Sc3 Part C (incomplete)

This scene continues to kick my ass, but I'm almost done with it! It's so beyond me to explain why it's so difficult to work with this particular scene, but the footage is rendered in such a way that isolation is difficult. Add in that keeping such long talkative scenes interesting is a challenge in itself, and it's a certain special storm. Also, it's a 10-minute-long scene x_x.

Hey all, this episode's been kicking our ass. The amount of isolating and new lip flaps and visual continuity stuff we need to watch out for is at an all-time high. UBW:A Ep11 Sc4 Full Preview

Our lip flap artist and sync editor both really knocked this out of the park - they had to make a lot of rather complex new lip flap shapes for the O sounds and new shots. I think they both did a properly fantastic job. This is the full version of the scene, minus music - that's still undecided. The next large multi-scene preview or full episode preview will have the music sorted out!

Scenes like this make me a tad bit nostalgic for when we did sub-two-minute scenes.

December 2023 Writing Pledge

Hey all! We don't do these unless there's a huge amount of man hours sunk into them (the last one was literally like four years ago), but we're using a Writing Pledge this month - for those who are unfamiliar, it's a pledge to account for the man hours spent scripting, reviewing material and preparing. About the YouTube Channel

Important notice about the YouTube channel. We just got hit with eight video removals (all for Bleach Abridged content), resulting in the channel having 3 copyright strikes. Normally this would give us a week until the channel completely shut down, but since a previous strike is being resolved that's been put on hold and we should be fine. We're combating the two strikes that came with all of the takedowns, but it's YouTube - who knows what will happen.

The lip sync'd preview of the rest of scene 1 is done. Our lip sync editor noted that color correction on this episode has been a heck of a mission, which I suppose isn't unexpected! It's insane the things you do in hopes of them never being noticed. More previews coming soon!

UBW:A Ep11 Sc4 Preview (No Flaps, Minimal SFX)

Heyo guys, here's a preview of scene 4! I'm getting pulled away for some things I can't set to the side, so I got as far as EQ/vocal sound design and then threw a base room tone on it. The fully FX'd version will be included with the lip sync'd version.

UBW:A Ep11 Sc1a Full Preview

Lip sync is done! This one was probably the hardest scene we've had to do on that front so-far. The shot of Archer against the horizon had to be isolated and rebuilt to a degree we've never had to do before. We're also firmly in the "every shot is moving in some way" part of the show, so that's fun! It makes the final product look great, but it makes it hella hard to deal with.

UBW:A Ep11 Sc2 Preview (No Flaps)

Nothing new to this story, but it's 3 AM and I'm just finishing up work for the night. The final version of this scene won't have much in the way of in-depth SFX since it's all clothes and footsteps, so I wanted to drop this preview. The vocal mixing is effectively done, and a base ambiance track is set. This scene was fun, mostly since I got to experiment with some reverb stuff in the sound design (I love rooms with lots of convolution reverb like this).

Acquisition Post

We haven't done one of these in a long time since we don't like off-setting costs, but we did resolve that if we had any MAJOR costs we'd return to doing this: I've mentioned in recent posts that our workhorse PC has been dying for a long time. UBW:A Ep11 Sc1 (Full) NoFlaps

About to head out for work, but I punched through the collective scene one and wanted to throw it your way with FX! This one has required a lot of small QOL edits - particularly, I've started doing C-flap fading since lighting in this episode is crazy in a really subtle way. I'd never done that before (in effect, isolating the closed-flap face for characters into a starting flap/plate and an end flap/plate and slowly fading between them to emulate the lightning changes in the scene).

Same situation as last night! It's 3:10 and I'm hanging up my hat for the night. This is the other major chunk of scene 1. You guys will get both scene with SFX very soon, as we only had to separate them for ease length/location FX purposes.

Lip sync isolation isn't done in this one yet - I'll be diving into doing that tomorrow before sending a everything over to our artist to get O flaps made.

UBW:A Ep11 Sc1 Preview - No Flaps/FX

Hey all! I'm just turning in - I expected to have the full audio track for this done, but the lighting in this scene is INCREADIBLY hard to work with, and I spent a ton of time today just making the base visuals work so we can do lip sync later. Some shots in this were genuinely the hardest I've ever had to work with, but you wouldn't know by looking at them.

New PC Up and Running

After a frankly mind-numbing amount of work getting the new work PC built and functioning, we've finally moved on from our formerly dying machine and are back on track! For the past year and a half or so, we've been working on a six-year-old PC that's been on its deathbed. We would have sorted this out sooner, but we couldn't figure out the problem - it turned out it was a dud graphics card.

You'll be seeing more updates and hearing more from us soon!
