SNR Progress Log #2 -- Who's Who?

Oh yeah, we're doing Vimeo now. Like all the other cool kids have. It has a :kaguyastare: profile pic and everything! You can expect these for all the SNR Records stuff.

Anyhow, I am currently nearing the end of casting for the main 4 characters, and have enough viable* picks that I put together a short video of them all. In the comments, please let me know which ones you like best for each character! I've placed my own personal frontrunners at the start of each section, but I would like a second opinion.

*take note of the word viable here- out of the 50odd submissions total, I dumpstered about half of them right off the bat. Not to be mean, but these were ones you could listen to and immediately dismiss due to poor mic quality or being a total mismatch for the character.

Audio files have had minimal edits- just some gain + reverb. If you hear any noise (other than the daytime ambience I put in), it won't be in the final project. Here is a link to the Google Doc and Castingcallclub page if you'd like some more insight as to what I had in mind for the voices.

----

0:00 - 1:44 -- MONA

This was far and away the most popular role auditioners went for, and it's easy to see why- she's the main character. That, and her voice direction is fairly straightforward. She's sort of like when a fighting game has an obvious "beginner character" (Ryu, Scorpion, Terry) and all the others are balanced around that. You know, if fighting-game-beginner-characters had low self esteem and could inflate. Basically the same thing.

Mona's the default, Naomi is more stern, Jack is more relaxed, and Aiko is 🫧bubbly🫧.

1:45 - 2:50 -- NAOMI

The main "thing" I wanted on this role was for the VA to speak with her chest. She's intended to be rather imposing, so her tone is fairly deep and bassy to match (without going too far into "cartoon fat person voice" territory). Some got this, others didn't. She had nearly as many submissions as Mona did, but a higher ratio of ones that made me go "yeah, no". Almost fitting given her character!

2:51 - 3:50 -- JACK

2 out of the 3 [viable] auditioners decided to go with a southern accent for some reason. My fault for only mentioning "they live on the west coast btw lol" in passing. 🥴

Probably will tell them to tone it down in the main script. Maybe something in the range of the first one at most.

3:51 - 5:07 -- AIKO

You already know who the ":^)" one belongs to. Aiko's lines in the script were pretty much written with Trina in mind, but if I'm being completely honest... I like some of the other entries too? Namely CA. Either her or Trina, I feel.

If I do end up going with someone else for dialogue, I'll definitely keep Trina for the vocal singing performance (yeah this thing is gonna have a musical number in it. God help us all) in episode 6.

----

In short: give me feedback! Voice casting is one of the (if not the, as in singular) most important decisions of this whole project. I trust my judgement, but maybe you guys think differently? Again, second opinions and all that.
