I'll never tale away that she is very good at writing hooks but it makes sense one would outgrow Taylor Swift since Taylor may be in arrested development from becoming famous so young. From the outside, my biggest complaint about Taylor is that she doesn't seem to push herself or truly be vulnerable for her art form. She has a formuoli that works & has been serving different versions of that for the past 18. I feel sad for Taylor bc she seems hyper consumed by the court of public opinion but it makes her too safe for my taste. She seems like she really needs everyone to see her as America's sweetheart. If a billionaire can't take chances who can? If an artist can't take a risk then?

So it’s super shitty to have an artist that has a huge young fan base that will be in situations like this and feel emboldened to kiss the guy with the girlfriend because he might die and I’ll regret it forever. The good of having girls take the risk and kiss the guy that has broken up, does not erase the broken trust and hearts of people in relationships that suddenly have girls kissing boys who are in couples because they might regret it 🙄 The song could have explored how she might tell him he wants to kiss him and hoping he’d breakup with his girlfriend. Which is still shitty but atleast not betrayal. Then going into their broken up I should have just kissed him. That’s the same thing but with nuance and compassion

In Opalite, TS directly references a viral video of Travis and his ex not getting along, and the same song juxtaposes his previous Onyx nights to his now Opalite skies 2. 2025-10-17 12:43:12 +0000 UTCEnglish is my third language and I probably won’t articulate myself very well in this situation but guys - there are lyrics out there like “that’s that me espresso” or “watermelon sugar high” that are considered AMAZING pop songs while the lyrics are just, well, not very deep. We are spoiled with Taylor because she is an outstanding songwriter and it is completely fine to be disappointed about the album not being to her usual lyrical standard - but I don’t think she ever advertised this album as something more than just a good pop album to dance to, correct me if I’m wrong. This is certainly not tortured poets but she never alluded to that being the case. This song is more a music listen, not a lyrical listen if you get what I mean and imo that’s okay!! Because apart from a few exceptions, the lyrics are a lot better than some charting pop songs out there!! (Doesn’t mean the others are bad, they are charting for a reason.) For Elizabeth Taylor: it don’t understand the take “she is stalking about rich shit that not relatable” the song is literally named after a very famous super rich it girl- of course me as a teacher cannot relate to that lol. But I love being immersed in a world of money and glamour and using that as a story telling device. For ruin the friendship: I think it’s important to see that she write this song AFTER he died, so in grief, and in knowing that you cannot turn back time, there is this moment of - oh man I would/ should have done ANYTHING to be with you, even if it’s not an invitation, not convenient (not right) I even would have kissed you (really not to be taken literal imo) when you had a girlfriend. That’s how much I miss you and regret not doing anything to be with you/to show you that I care about you. Just my two cents

Some prolific artists (e.g, Bob Dylan) will complete change writing styles, forget how to write the way they used to, or not even understand how they wrote their earliest work by the end of their career. It can happen, and not always for the worse. I also think that this could just be a product of burnout in some regard, where she's set up these immense expectations for herself through her fandom and she can't keep up. Having made an album myself, I can't imagine releasing 1 or more albums a year and touring at that caliber.

Her argument was that Taylor already made songs about these topics but did it better. So this has to be intentional. To me it just reads as someone who has ran out of interesting things to say so they had to go back to their old work and just repeated herself because she has nothing new or interesting to say. It has to be something in the water because Joe Abercrombie and Brandon Sanderson also just put out new work that is widely considered their worst/weaker than the rest of their career

My dad used to tell me never to hate a whole genre, because somewhere in there is at least one song that’ll inspire you as an artist. (I used to make music and wanted to be a producer, but my hand joints started cramping too bad to keep playing.) Because of that, I usually get why artists blow up — I even called Paramore and Gym Class Heroes back when they dropped their first albums. But I could never understand her rise after the Self-Titled era. The only song I ever added was “Safe & Sound,” and even that wasn’t one she wrote solo. I’ve been confused for years — until QT explained it. Now I totally get what FanFan was saying. I’m not adding her to my playlist just yet, but I finally understand the appeal.

I also like Father Figure (despite the cringe 'dicks bigger' parts). With Cancelled idc about the lyrics I like it sonically and then TLOAS I like the story and Sabrina's parts especially but the song was kinda 'meh' at first, though it grew on me. The song that I really began to appreciate is Ruin The Friendship after understanding the lyrics more and what/who they're about, very emotional. I also listened to Forever Winter because of seeing fans say it's about the same guy (Jeff) which made it even more sad plus I like the bittersweet high school nostalgia aspect and urging you to live without regrets. It's a shame that people focused on the girlfriend part and reduced the grief as well as touching message of the song to just 'omg she endorses cheating', no it's much bigger than that and it seems more like encouragement to take opportunities in life that perhaps you're hesitant about in the moment but if you don't try, you may end up regretting and wondering 'what if' for the rest of your life. Eldest Daughter & Honey are ok but forgettable, wouldn't go out of my way to listen to them and then my least favourites are Actually Romantic, Wi$h Li$t & Wood. Not for me.

She stated in an interview in April 2021 that she got inspiration from the bridge in "Cruel Summer" to use shouting vocals in the bridge for "Deja Vu." She got permission to interpolate the opening chords of "New Year's Day" on her song "1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back" and credited Taylor when "Sour" released. Then in May 2021, Taylor and Olivia meet... internet goes crazy. THEN in July 2021, its reported that Olivia had to go back and give Taylor, Jack and St. Vincent credit for "Deja Vu," three months after it's already been released. Olivia hasn't spoken about Taylor unprompted ever since and possibly wrote "The Grudge" about the whole situation.

I think this perspective of ‘Ruin the Friendship’ is what I thought immediately but I have changed my thoughts on the lyrics since listening more. I really do think this song is rooted in grief and showing that there are ebbs and flows with that healing process. And I think we kind of go through the classic “What if” with her. Would you be by my side today? In her scenario, could I have saved you? Would he still be alive if our relationship was more than a friendship. Because one leap of faith could have changed everything of his outcome & even hers. Any small change in your life can change the path you have created now. I think there is a million ways she could have said this, but I also think it’s a choice to make it a little less lyric heavy because the grief and start of the relationship happened when she was so young. The story telling and being in high school was important to put you in the shoes that he had his whole life ahead of him with the addition of this is the Taylor he knew when he was alive. This is how he ingested her music at that time. And in a way it just feels like a time capsule or a diary entry after he passed and her reflection on it. All in all I think it has made me reflect differently on grief. Thinking about how one might feel 15 years from the moment it happened. Knowing that it’s sad for others too and grief isn’t something you are only through is kind of comforting.

Suspect Cartier refer is to huge diamond Richard burton gave her. I think the place is associated with Liz. Liz was a child actress. She lost a big early love to an accident. She was often searching for love. But she did lot for charity especially for aids. On other stuff natural opalite is full of color , different ones. Back in Shakespeare time some wondered if madness waz contagious. So maybe hamlets madness infected her?
