A large number of my friends/co-workers/etc have been stalked and none of them are influencers or in the public eye. It seems like it's not uncommon at all. I didn't realize until I was listening to a true crime podcast that stalking wasn't even a crime in the US until 1990. (Even later in the UK and other countries) An actress in California named Theresa Saldana was a huge advocate for making stalking a crime and after she was attacked (she survived, but it was traumatic af) it finally became a law that stalkers could be prosecuted.

2024-04-16 21:56:35 +0000 UTCOh my god! when I was young, 19/20 I worked at a sandwich/bakery and I was leaving around 4:30 for the opening shift. I got in my car, it was dark, and as I put on my seatbelt, I noted a weird smell. I thought "oh no, someone broke into my car" and started looking around to see if anything was missing.... There was a man in the back seat!! I started screaming, ran out of the car, back to the house. He said "Wait" and I thought fuck that. After some time, I started to realize that it smelled like alcohol and that he was sleeping. I lived on the side of a main street with a lot of weekend bar activity. It was so scarry and 14 years late, I still feel like there is someone behind me (even after I check a billion times. Anyway, it really does happen and I am forever grateful that it was just a sleeping drunk guy instead of someone that wanted to harm me.

I cannot imagine the fear and trauma she must have been experiencing in that moment. And QT having to deal with psychos impersonating her dead mom. I don't even have the words to express my support for yall, I just hope you can find healing and security. It fucking sucks that female streamers have to put up with this shit

Hopefully soon we can have better programs to teach that these are all very real issues. With more eyes and awareness on the problem, and lobbying from Twitch (Amazon) and YouTube the knowledge can be pushed down to the local level.

I wish there was more awareness and that even the platforms themselves helped a bit to prevent this or at least make it easier for victims to get protection.
