Lots of kids have smart watches that they can text and call their parents on which is pretty neat. But yes, kids on tiktok/social media is scary. Also OMG my best friend HATES poop/fart talk and he's a dude lol. It's so .... eh.

It's true that big industrial dairy operations are wasteful and harmful to the environment, but the conversation doesn't have to suddenly jump to raw milk. If the reddit poster doesn't want to support big dairy but also doesn't like the milk alternatives, I imagine many areas should have smaller local dairy operations selling regular pasteurized milk. Like you said, the entire medical community generally thinks raw milk is an unnecessary risk, and there's no real upside. I feel like Maya generally explains agricultural issues pretty well, and before that post I never would've thought some natural medicine weirdos would get the wrong idea.

You could imagine all the rules you want ahead of time, but maybe by the time Maya/QT's hypothetical kid is 12 or 17 or whatever, they're more or less ready for cell phones/social media than they expected. Or maybe by then cell phones are obsolete, and everybody has VR contact lenses and the teens are all blinking memes at each other all day.

I'm terminally online but if I was a kid in these times I'd absolutely want my parents to keep me away from smartphones until I was like at least 16. Like it or not its like not letting a millennial use a pc until 15, it severely puts them behind the curve and might threaten social life. It'll be hard to know until you become a parent of a say 10 year old, what is appropriate for the time. I bought my own game boy and games of a friend because I didnt have any gaming console till 12 and felt left out. That was in the late 90s, i can imagine what you need to have to fit in, in 2024+.

We have family who's kids are younger and already have phones and snapchat and Instagram and tiktok and it frustrates me because then my children are wondering why they can't have it. But as someone who knows anxiety and stuff is hereditary on my finances side I don't want for my 7 year old daughter to be struggling with self image or comparing herself to the fakeness online. I struggled with it so bad as a teen and had issues with eating and still suffer with body image issues so I don't have Instagram or tiktok to keep me sane. It's also frustrating to have in laws and my own mother trying to make me get them a phone or offering to buy one for them. 🙄 also love how real yall are and happy to see real vulnerability and women being women it's definitely helped me feel less weird about alot insecurities I've had cause they're just normal lol ❤️ also you're both GORGEOUS

2024-02-08 04:03:56 +0000 UTCi think a basic phone for calls and text is a good idea at any age. they could make a really low power, ultra-thin phone that has a nuclear battery and a small photovoltaic (like those calculators) so it is always ready in case of an emergency. so not super efficient for texting but still capable of it if there is a need for silence to stay safe. idk why they dont make those. id buy one just to have handy. id probably buy some for my friends too.

So to be completely honest I think you should maybe give your kid full access to the internet ( maybe not TikTok/shorts/reels) at sixth grade. I think I got full access to the internet in third grade which is nine years old here. Not letting a 12 year old having access to Snapchat is almost cruel to be honest
