Maya's Mini Episode #11

Maya takes us on an animal adventure! This weeks animal is the mantis shrimp!

Comments

More bugs?

Makenzie

Slugs, please. Just regular slugs, they fascinate me.

V-Nessa

I want to suggest the axolotl, I think they're really cool, and I plan to see some in like a month at the Mexico City Zoo

Enrique Villarreal

i seen spider crabs in an aquarium and they're scary to me. wouldn't mind learning about them

ChubbyHobo

that is insane. these lil dudes are sick

ChubbyHobo

Glad to have woken up to this

Glitch

Omg...knocked the leg off that crab! That's insane. Are there any cool cave animals to talk about?

Dune_Shadow

As for suggestions, I would say Bull/Gopher Snake especially for its unfortunate propensity to be mistaken for rattlesnakes and needlessly killed(rattlesnakes should never be harmed either). Or Gopher tortoises as one of the single most important habitat engineers in the South Eastern US

Swamp Ape Science

Also the term Thumb-splitter originally came from fisherman because their carapace are very sharp and heavily jointed so they often split peoples hands open which I have unfortunately witnessed twice. This was also usually in reference to the "Spearer" mantis as opposed to the "Smasher" mantis. I've been punched a few times and while it certainly sucks and leaves heavy bruising its never broken skin.

Swamp Ape Science

As someone wo has worked in aquarium stores for over a decade the glass thing is a myth I've probably worked with no less than 100 Peacock Mantis Shrimp in captivity. What was really happening is their aggressive burrowing usually causes rocks to collapse breaking the tank glass.

Swamp Ape Science

these are so hard to catch in animal crossing

Bailey

Would love a video about Turtle Frogs (Myobatrachus), we have them in Australia.

MsUltraUnicorn

I also remember I think that they have 12-16 color cones (we have 3, green, red, and blue) I'm pretty sure they said that in the video but it was super quiet and hard to hear. ANYWAY THATS INSANE

Ash

Yay love these guys. How about doing one on something common like the ducks or llamas on your neighbors farm? I know ducks have some interesting ice-breaker like facts

SetRange

The next coming of jesus is going to be a shark because sharks can immaculately get pregnant apparently? How does that work? Is there any other animal that can reproduce normally but also just do it solo?

BS

or an axolotl! pretty basic right now, but they have such a cool, interesting history!

Kiera Clements

i still think the shoebill would be cool to learn about! i've only ever seen that twitter video that floats around every couple of years and they seem so interesting!

Kiera Clements

That one bird that serves cunt, love her

Snacboi

I FUCKING LOVE THE MANTIS SHRIMP ITS SO COOL

domino

also here are some suggestions on what you could talk about Halitrephes Jelly aka firework jellyfish, Superb Bird-Of-Paradise, Okapi, Sea Lamprey, Dumbo Octopus, Panda Ant, Fossa, Saiga Antelope, Spiny Bush Viper, Leafy Seadragon, Atretochoana Eiselti aka penis snake, Sea Pig, Pacu Fish

Vadonis1

Wow they're coooool! I wanna see an episode on armadillos, I love those guys.

kingofthemarsh

Would you ever consider doing Natural places around the world that look cool/have a unique biodiversity?

Vadonis1

these guys can shoot as fast as a .22 calibre bullet too, also they should be kept in nothing less than 1/4" but most recommend 1/2" glass.
