Again I’m so late to this podcast, but it’s sad to say this, but I started trying to stay close with my girlfriends I made in adulthood because what happens when I get old? I work in a hospital setting and it is so sad to see how many older people have no family and no friends. Or if they do how warming it is to see them visit the patient in sad times. It really made me think where I want to be when I’m 60 or 70 years old. I’m hoping I have friends who come see me after I have a stroke 😭🤣

I relate to Maya’s story more I suppose in this instance. All my guy friends would confess one by one that they loved me and it sucked cause I just wanted friends. Whenever I found a girlfriend I could connect with I was ecstatic. I feel like I still struggle with it some in adulthood too but I’ve got myself a group of girls I love the only issue is none of them hangout together lol I’ve just befriended girls in different areas of my life like work and gym

It presents quite differently in women and quite under-searched. I say this because I’m diagnosed with ASD,ADHD,PTSD,BPD and resonate with a lot of your issues.

I for example can't do citrus fruit. i'm not allergic, in fact i love the taste, but the texture just makes me 🤢. my uncle tried to force me to eat a single orange slice when at a chinese restaurant as a kid i chewed on it for 15min before spitting it up. i couldn't swallow it. the part about being brutally honest is something my bff does and she is on the spectrum. we are both super literal in how we speak, etc. also my bff also has a lot of problems with women being nice to her similarly to QT. might be because she is so honest all the time or its just bullying. autism gets passed over in women a lot and can look different then in men. You lose nothing from getting tested, you either you are on the spectrum and you unlock what you should be treating, or you know you aren't on the spectrum and you can look elsewhere to help with mental health.

I saw a tiktok about a girl in this predicament of making girl friends that basically was saying being vulnerable is the key. I lived in Austin, TX and it was pretty expensive for low tier selections but it did cover me for those doctor visits. I know you are in California but it should be offered there too, hopefully this helps! Health care is crazy confusing for everyone, don't feel bad!

2023-04-12 19:53:20 +0000 UTCqt, search insurance broker california on google. i was without health insurance for awhile and i have a lot of health problems, and i found an insurance broker who took care of it all for me, all i had to do was tell her my doctors and medical needs. best part is they don’t ask you for payment, they get paid by the gov/insurance companies/third parties. so the service is feee to you!

When I first watched QT I did et that 'pick me' opinion, but the more I watched the more I realised she was being honest, her self esteem around how she is perceived is so different from reality. You can even tell on Fear & how Will and Hasan body language is still kind of shocked when QT says something self-deprecating or coming from a place of low self esteem, These podcasts let us know, no matter how 'supported' you are publicly, these feelings are normal!

I actually was so apprehensive to ludwig and his videos at first while after the first vid i saw qt in i immediately went to her yt and subd so i don't know why that's so also is this a me thing but sometimes i watch ludwigs videos and i cant immerse myself fully in them and i always have this barrier surrounding me from it... i only subd to lud after like my yt feed bombarding me with his cameo content and me finally saying fine i watch enough of him to sub and qt was instantly approachable for me. another thing i kind of wanted to say is regarding female friendships and how for me (idk if this will get me kicked but anywho) as a young female viewer still in high school I've always been more comfortable with guys. Since like 2nd grade i have had this thing where girls vent and talk about their troubles with me and my brain immediately goes to explaining my own similar experience because well that's how people bond right? but i eventually go into so much detail and shit in my life that suddenly my brain is telling me to shut up and like very aggressively too "you are making everything about you! make her feel included! shut up! be quiet! no one cares this much about you to sit through this! don't burden her!" and I've always had this insecurity of being too much. While with guys, they don't vent they don't talk about feelings much and so i don't need to talk about mine we just play games or talk about things not feelings. and without this potential convo of thoughts and opinions and feelings on the table i feel more comfortable in not being too much and not second guessing myself i feel much more at ease with my mind not telling me im overbe umm from this comment you could also tell i kinda talk a lot.. i always have a lot on my mind and i don't really like saying things in a quick short sentence because it feels ingenuine to whats really underneath that sentence.. but yeah this is also a point of contention and a factor into why maybe someone struggles with female friendships from another girl but the funny thing is that im a girls girl and bubbly and i still experience these things so yea its pretty varied and funny. im sorry for this long comment its an essay really... im generally a lurker everywhere lol. the number of times I've ever commented on anything is less than 20 instances and I've been on the internet since i was 5 years old. idk if anyone read this far.. but qt and maya are amazing and sometimes these podcasts eps just make me feel so much more ok in what im feeling and experiencing... they are great truly and uhh thank you for the episode! essay over i think, god, bye.

I honestly really appreciate how open QT and Maya are about just the general struggles and issues women face that get completely overlooked by men and are rarely brought up. Watching through all the episodes has been so eye opening and has really made me rethink a lot. Genuinely has been so helpful for developing more empathy. sometimes you just don't realize how much you don't really notice because you aren't conditioned to pay attention.

With all love towards Maya there’s nothing more telling that someone grew up well-off than the way she reacted to you explaining never having healthcare and you being so overwhelmed by it because, like QT, I also grew up low-income in a town with garbage education and that’s just the norm and people don’t realize the healthcare system is literally structured to make it difficult for poorer people to understand it and use it efficiently. In terms of the seconds topic, like Maya, it made me so sad to realize that the male friends I thought were just my buddies and that I thought they just considered me “one of the guys” just wanted to get with me 😭 it made me realize I can’t win with male or female friends :( anyways great episode so far <3

I honestly don't think it's terrible advice, I think its smart what you were saying about how the institutions we are part of are what really bind friendships together on a casual level. Thats why so many of us as adults feel like our only friends beyond the hs/college people we keep in touch with are the coworkers we like the best. So if you want to make new friends and have the time for it to develop into deeper connections, it's probably a smart thing to give it the opportunity by creating that structure yourself and being rigid about it. Planning a group around one common interest to meet for a couple hours once a month would definitely widen your social circle without being some insane commitment.

I had a group of girlfriends a few times in my life and that came down to times when I was like living really confidently and authentically. 2023-04-12 01:43:37 +0000 UTCin my experience with trying to compliment other girls and match their energy you just have to practice it i used to not be able to say anything affectionate and girls always told me they thought i was mean at first but i started practicing it and at first i felt so cringe and out of place and that everyone knew that i was bad at it but then i started to actually be decent at it and it came out genuinely because i figured out what was suitable for me personally so you really just have to practice it because it doesn’t matter what you actually reply or say its just the fact that you cared to say something nice about them is enough

In my 20's I was always friends with men over woman, and only looking back now can I see it's because it was easier knowing they would want to hang out with me because I was cute and they liked me. It was low effort friendship. I didn't have to try. Being friends with women requires alot of effort, and as you guys said, hyping girls up and being bubbly, etc. If you are not that type of person (which I'm not) it's very hard.

It made me think of internalized misogyny and how depending on how much is actually internalized really shifts the ways we look at other women and our relationships with them. Margaret Atwood has a great quote on male fantasies/internalized misogyny where she says “You are a woman with a man inside watching a woman.” I didn’t personally have a lot of male friends growing up, but I always felt like I wanted to be accepted by them at all times.

I realized that qt reminds me of Moira from schitts creek 😂 I can’t imagine not having health insurance, especially with how much qt goes to doctors and urgent cares. It’s also wild that they don’t have more girlfriends because all the girls that go to her events always talk about how awesome qt is and how they want to do more with her. I know it’s mostly in her head but I think she would have a lot of friends if she just put herself out there

Everyone wants to be invited to things but is nervous to ask so being the one who asks really helps. It can feel scary to put yourself out there but it's worth it to make friends (of any gender)!

It doesn't matter that he is a super successful juggernaut of streaming like y'all, he does a lot to make sure people don't take him too seriously and also does a lot to make people think that he doesn't take himself too seriously. To be approachable is to be disarming and to make people feel like they don't have to try to impress you. Maya mentioned the pencil trick as the reason she was able to make friends; the reason that worked so well is not because it made the other person feel needed, it worked because it reduced her intimidation levels by opening up a very surface level relatable flaw; making her more approachable. She disarmed them with something relatable and not super serious. TL;DR To be approachable is simply to be open about trivial flaws and be okay with making yourself the butt of the joke with not important things; aka very casual self deprecation

It's not only for Medicare/Medicaid, it actually lets you buy plans too. That's where you can get insurance, and you probably should!

Heres a list of health cares in the state of califonia, its hard to know what kind you want but if you need a certain med, its good to look it up and make sure they can provide it. and then i look if my current doctor uses that insurancelook for health insurance, and then find whats in my budget. thats how i usually find my insurances. when its time to renew or whatever it is every year, i take what i didnt like about it and applied it to the new search for health insurance. you may get shitty insurance one year but then youll know what you dont like. I have thought about this a lot and I think women like you both and myself included, support or relate to women from a problem-solving perspective, which is conventionally a patriarchal pov. You look to supporting women by finding a solution to their problems and uplifting them in this patriarchal society through that perspective. But you hesitate to find the comfort in supporting women by just being a woman, i.e; the girl's girl. And that could be because both of you have been exposed to the critically patriarchal perspective growing up and you were unconsciously sensitive towards it. So, in a way, we have just been conditioned to look at the girl's girl as a naive way to be in this patriarchal society. This and I also think what QT said about women being non-confrontational and complicated and can be another reason as to why we find it difficult to develop female friendships, imo.

I think it's intended for low income people, but I looked it up and it says on their website that you dont have to be low income, you just wont get the discount that low income people get. But because you have a more complicated life where you need it in 2 states, maybe you're better off calling one of the major national insurance companies and have them solve your problems. That being said, I have way too much social anxiety to ever attempt to go to the doctor unless I'm dying, so I cant actually vouch that I have good coverage lmao

Individual people can just get Blue Cross by signing up/shopping for it. The only reason people get it through work is to get discount prices. Go to an insurance website, click For individuals if they have an option like that, and start shopping. You can also apply for short term insurance for between yearly enrollment dates. Usually you call, they can work with you to get some coverage now. You should be able to get a plan anytime since you currently don't have insurance. And, if you get a national provider (basically any of the options but Kaiser, I think) you should be able to use it in both CA and WA. Also don't feel stupid about it. Health insurance is such a unnecessarily confusing thing and no one talks to you about it when you turn 26. It's super annoying. Only reason I know is I just had to do it while I was freelancing for a few months. It'll be worth paying a monthly premium over out-of-pocket costs, and you can compare plans, etc. I was able to get a plan for 3 months and then cancel when I got work-sponsored health insurance.
