IMHO the( potential ) female audience may not want to hear QT and Maya talk about situations ( like sexism in the twitch creator community , fears of being harass in public, stories of rape or death threats ) because, I think most women in the USA have a story or two of the sexism they experience if not on a monthly basis that they might not wanted to be reminded of it in the slightest. I know I maybe generalizing why women aren’t watching / listening to (unintentionally at times) a funny Duo like Qt and Maya but, then again with such gigantic volume of content of online media to consume in today’s Internet that it’s probably easier to overlook (ANY) twitch content creators as potentially worth some people’s money and attention. Keep up the great podcast and work you ladies are doing!!

Like "ugh they're invading this space too". But then, I got a little happy because it means there is a big number of men watching this show, actually listening to two women and shaping their mindsets and thoughts from your input. This isn't to put pressure on the kind of conversations you have, you can and should have fun talks, or more serious ones like today. I'm just hopeful that these men can learn your perspective, and I feel like that is a big source of change. Also, I am a gay man, we are here and we love you two. 2023-04-06 21:37:53 +0000 UTCpenguin. and man, the discussion around deepfakes is incredibly depressing. you can never win as a woman on the internet (or anywhere) because standards are held so high for us :/ also the response by male streamers was definitely something. i think a good point to make is that all streamers have some part of their audience that don’t care for their personal life and watch strictly for the content they produce (“we don’t care start playing ____” andies). but for female streamers there’s extra layers where they’ll have first time chatters (and sometimes regulars) who come into the stream and don’t care for the woman, nor the content they produce. they just want to see that woman nude because they don’t see women as humans, just objects - and are under the assumption that we want to be sexualised constantly like it’s gratifying to us lol. male streamers just don’t have that experience with the average viewer and i doubt most will ever understand or accept it. (btw minority demographic here but let’s go lesbians!!!!!)

The discussion on deepfakes is really sad the way some guys choose to just ignore how it makes the affected women feel and make up hypotheticals about how they might feel. It probably isn't much solace, but I would guess most guys who do that are kids. There's a lot of ignorance online from teenage boys who go down the incel pipeline because they're going through puberty and dont think beyond their jealousy of women getting sexual attention that they themselves aren't. Can only hope they talk to more real women and grow out of it. Also section 230 is a good thing because without it social media and even twitch couldn't really exist, it would cost too much in moderation because the website could be held liable for the content on it. The issue is really the fuzzy laws I think on deepfakes, uploading sexual deepfakes should be a crime federally. You would think it would be covered under the nonconsensual porn laws that get revenge porn taken down, but because it's so new the legal system might not have caught up yet.

My initial reaction was very similar to yours, and im not even an atrioc viewer. It was hearing from the perspective of the women involved that helped me understand how and why it was so awful

QT, although the DF situation was a nightmare and you regret going live, it was SO IMPACTFUL for me (and many of my friends) that you spoke up. Many of my friends (m and f) that I've made over the years streaming felt so much more comfortable talking about this and speaking out because of how vulnerable that stream was. It opened up a really important discussion about consent that honestly some people werent ready to have (but it's needed!). The only reason people love to hate/be weird with you guys is because they want attention. Being a girl is hard when everyone loves to yell and speak over you.

As a queer watcher, weird to put it like that, I don't think I've ever felt the urge to sexualize you guys, that seems to really be a men's issue, think that is because they've always been mostly allowed and encouraged to do so in the outside world and naturally it would be worse online where there's not the same idea of consequence since you're not face to face, if it makes any sense. It is so disheartening to see you guys having to overexplain stuff because otherwise your very clear takes would be twisted into something completely different. Have to say, I quite prefer watching the podcast format rather than watching streams, having to deal with chat even on the best days can be frustrating as a viewer, can't imagine dealing with it as a streamer. I've watched wine about it since it's beginning and appreciate it sooo much. all love (small note: the lighting overall looks much better and like cohesive when it's night on qt's side)

I just wanted to express that not only as a small streamer, but as a woman/feminine person, i can't express enough how meaningful it was that QT, you were so vulnerable and did that initial stream being emotional about the deepfakes. I know that there was a loud majority of people that bashed you for it. But despite there being a majority of women who have been assaulted, it feels like people are quiet or not taken seriously about the real emotional effects it has on people. it can still feel so isolating. Idk if it's weirdly parasocial to say, but just as a victim seeing people you look up to unfortunately openly go through these things BUT still be successful and push thru is inspiring, because the industry and living as a woman in this society can feel so daunting and hopeless. thank you both for sharing with us despite the shit that happens

Some people attack the sport by calling it fake but like Maya says in most ways it makes it better: the athletes are supposed to take care of each other and enact the violence in a controlled consensual way. Also somehow the over-the-topness and occasional cringe is also somewhat fit to QT's sense of humor.

People who think that they are overreacting clearly lack empathy, their reactions reveal a lot about how ingrained the objectification of women is, how our bodies are viewed as objects for gratification. It feels very defeating.

2023-04-05 14:03:47 +0000 UTCi have limited time and cannot respond at the length i’d like to but will address a few of your most interesting points: 2. yes, it’s a low standard to want. it’s the bare minimum. i believe i am perfectly fine to make that generalisation when the vast majority of women are going to want to be treated equally - it’s not a divisive issue. 4. being a mother is incredibly hard work and is commendable. when i say “reduced to” i mean that they are being limited / confined to that position whereas there are many things a women can decide to do with her life aside from having children. so when you stated, “giving away intimacy for money is not good for women that will become mothers”, i interpreted that as you setting that expectation of them having children and limiting them to that. 7. unfortunately a lot of your first comment did perpetuate patriarchal ideas and it’s merely something i pointed out, not something i intended as a personal dig. you stated that, “my intentions are not to cause harm and you believing that because i only expressed my views is sad to me” - my whole argument is that the views which you chose to express are inherently harmful, no matter if you intended them to be or not. i am not trying to upset you, but i enjoy engaging with people who have different viewpoints to me especially when i see them as harmful. i would be more than happy to send you research through discord/twitter if you are genuinely interested. my discord tag is catburys#9735 and my twitter is @toryhaterr. feel free to reach out if you would like to continue the conversation outside the Wine About It Patreon comments. have a good day!

There are a few things though that I would like to respond to concerning your comment because I believe you understood me wrong in some of the points that I talked about: 1. I don't like to generalize and talk about half of the global population like I know each individual. "trust me when I say that all women want is to be treated like a normal human being." - I didn't generalize and I don't think you should either but I agree that there are women that want to be treated like you said(although being treated like a normal human is a pretty low standard) 3. "your anti-sex work monologue is nothing but another spout of patriarchal ideas that women should not participate in sex work" - I did not say that women should not participate in sex work (everyone should be able to do what they want). I simply said that I don't support it(not in any way including financially) anymore. They appeal to the lowest common denominator on twitch/YT, the toxic masses. People who get a hateboner whenever a streamer they don't like gets attacked, often because they're jealous, or the streamer is simply not part of their favorite streamer's clique. It's content that a hater can easily latch on to think they have some sort of argument or justification for their toxic behavior towards a streamer. In reality they're bad arguments, just statements that seem plausible to someone dumb enough or toxic enough to believe and spread on the internet with ill intentions. I hope you guys know that you do have an audience who empathizes with you, are smart enough to understand the clear difference there is in your joke/sponsor and the things which these detractors present as being the same. I know having a platform you have to care about this sort of discourse. I just wish you could give it no attention as it deserves none and just move forward trusting your discerning audience will keep supporting you. Also, Beluga whale...as someone pointed out polar bears are pre puberty, I know to many it's a sorta despicable distinction to make, but I personally hate when words are misused to be weaponized and make a situation seem worse and more scandalous.
