Dev Log 0.11b: Knowledge

Hello everyone! Firstly, preview tier supporters can find the latest build here.

Okay then after that... Sadly only one new scene this week. Haily can be found by the lake on sunday night and you can go all in on some gross handholding action... Oh right, we've also been working on a bunch of stuff under the hood to increase the ability to handle game variables. And by handle that also includes displaying it to the player... but it's not ready yet though.

I had wished to do more than this but sadly, I caught a sniffle! Some friends came back from an adventure and brought with the a very special present. All I have to say about that is that it's been quite some time since I've been this full of slime!

Beyond that something else, a little while ago I commissioned a tool to help build the guide. The guide is obviously something necessary but just chewed up so much time and is kinda prone to bugs. It does definitely cut down the time on it but at a small scale it's heard to beat just doing it by hand. Once scenes get larger though the ability to remember the size of everything and lay it out required a preplanning phase and this tool really helps with all that.

What else? Oh yeah, I've noticed a minor problem with mood, mostly that there are enough people out there who don't get that it's global stat and thinking it's character based. I've always been of the mind that if players are having a problem it's up to designers to fix it (Or triage and just leave it). Players can't be wrong about their experience. Anyway, maybe just renaming it might help? Not really sure what to rename it too though... Regardless that's time for me to check out for this week.

I tried to seperate them in a left to right style, so another one of those things that makes sense if you know... but if you don't know then it's not that helpful. I can definitely add some more spaces... possibly break them down into lines but there is only so much room. Definitely a good idea though.

With regards to mood - It took me a little while to figure out that it wasn't tied to any NPCs, which basically just led me to thinking instead that it was tied to the PC all the time. I understand now what you're trying to say, that it's tied to the overall "mood" or atmosphere of the weekend as it progresses. I don't know if "atmosphere" is really the best option though either. This goes into another slight issue with the Guide, and maybe a way to help resolve this, but in cases where multiple stats are affected by an action would it be possible to separate each stat on a new line? I can't paste images here, but as an example where hugging Lisa twice has the effects of decreasing Mood, increasing Lisa Love, and decreasing Alex Love at Saturday Breakfast could all three of those be listed on a separate line so it's clearer who each stat affects? That might help to indicate that Mood isn't tied to any specific character, as well.
