Step-by-Step (2): Planning
Added 2022-10-25 21:26:47 +0000 UTCThis four-piece series is part of my ongoing love-train of artworks for Esselles "The Job": It depicts a scene from chapter 3 where Hinata surprises Tobio with a date in the upscale restaurant on the thirty-eighth floor of the Grand Hyatt hotel.
Since I envisioned the scene similar to a storyboard for a movie scene, I started with roughly sketching the "shots" I felt were most fitting to both illustrate the moment but also being strong enough to work without text. This early stage is really the most important: Here's where you lay the groundwork for everything time consuming in the future - going back and adjusting later on is always a hassle, so I personally like to do a linework version next, where I finalise the background elements and foreground characters. All that's left (ignoring that it tends to be the part that takes longest) is the coloring!

Thank you! It get's a bit more messy between stage one and two when the idea is not as clear, but for most of the drawings I usually have somewhat of a concept in mind already, so it's really a matter of getting them out of my head and on paper ;)
