Why The Disposable Black Girlfriend Sucks

The Disposable Black Girlfriend is the bane of my existence, but it is troubling for multiple reasons beyond bad writing.

[Note: Originally, I planned to do an entirely different video (and it is still going to happen Taras) but then I watched Invincible and then Temptation Island so it made me totally switch up. Also as the political climate keeps getting horrid, I wanted to make sure that I am going to do a video about the Tragic Mulatto I give it some time to really season. So the next video will be about The Legend of Korra as a stop gap before we get deeper into politics. I promise to make it worth it.]

I feel like Belinda on White Lotus is in serious danger and it is making me very angry. I want her to have a happy ending but I doubt it will happen.

Speaking of Castlevania Nocturne, can anyone point me to the video where Princess talked about Annette? I remember her talking about her but can't find it again.

Excellent analysis as always! I did a full spit take at “Joe…ally?”

Thank you for talking about "You" because I started off expecting the worse for Joe's black love interests only for them to completely subvert the trope. And also a big thank you to discussing Perseus and Andromeda because some of the tumblr "classists" will try to swear up and down that portraying her as black is some great offense, but are silent when she's portrayed as a Nordic-looking white woman. This is also why I am very much pro Leah Jeffries' casting as Annabeth in the PJO live-action series because Annabeth is not a disposable black girlfriend (she and Percy are endgame), she's allowed to be her own character outside of Percy, and -keep in mind this is just my personal interpretation - given that Percy, the character, is partially inspired by Perseus, the mythological figure, Annabeth being black and OG Perseus' love interest more than likely being black provides another layer and context.

The tea is piping hot in this entire video. More black women being deeply loved in our media PLEASE. And as a side note, as a gay Melin fan, I never shipped Arthur x Merlin. I always wished they'd made one or two of the Knights of the Round Table openly gay. I like to headcanon Percival as gay. Gwen is too good and pure and wonderful to be bashed by Arthur x Merlin shippers.

G-Spaniard

I'd give this video a million hearts if I could. I will be patiently waiting on the Iris West video because the amount of fuckery both the character and Candice went through (even with a Black male showrunner!) is astounding in the worst way possible

One of my Tumblr mutuals (jhenne-bean) calls this the Benchmark Black GF/BF because so often a part of it is that the non-Black partner is not ready to be the right partner for their true love interest and the Black partner is there to help lead them through that growth or their relationship acts as a yardstick against the later relationship of the non-Black to show their growth. Anyway great video as always

I remember there was a comic I read about Perseus when I was like 7th grade and it did portray andromeda as black so that’s how I always saw her. Like to point I was kinda baffled in movies where she was white
