Bridgerton Season 3 Brought Out The Worst of Its Fandom

This season of Bridgerton exposed just how racist and homophobic the fandom is, and that was on top of the season being mid.

[consider this a prelude to my Outlander video coming this Fall ;), you heard it here first xx]

I’ve had to retreat to my tumblr bubble to avoid all the racist, homophobic/biphobic, fatphobic nonsense. It’s sad when this was the one (1) period drama-ish/romance show that didn’t seem to attract the worst fans.

Uff I have like a whole essay about this show in my head but I won't dump that in your comment section. One thing I wholeheartedly agree is it seems like they are adding all those storylines to kind of make it more interesting and more "serious" and not just about romance, when they don't get that romance in of itself is interesting to the audiences who are into the genre. Let us see the couple that's all we want truly! Overall I'm curious how the genre will evolve because as it became more openly mainstream (not that it wasn't but now its undeniable) and found new audiences it would be interesting to see how the tropes will evolve. Thank you as always for bringing top notch analysis to the table!

I'm a big historical romance reader, but these days I'm very careful about what exactly I read because I really don't need regressive gender dynamics and stereotypes, and luckily these days there are a lot of options that avoid this, both queer and straight. I read the first Bridgerton book before I knew better and was both annoyed by the gender dynamics and shocked how little the on-page SA by the heroine was addressed (I did not read further into the series). I've been vaguely interested in watching the show because of the changes they made and particularly interested in Season 3 because I love Nicola Coughlan, so it's disappointing to hear that it's not that great. I'm personally excited for a queer main couple in Francesca and Michaela, and so incredibly disappointed by the reaction that's gotten - although as clearly explained in the video, it's not surprising. I really hope they stick with it and do it well, though!

I don’t watch Bridgerton. Just heard S3 is not great. This is the first time I’ve heard anyone talking about the dark side of the fandom. Hope the backlash from this video doesn’t get to you, Princess. Appreciate your work as always.
