Empire and Imperialism in Children's Cartoons—a super light topic

It is still in a weird copyright place right now, but they are finally letting me share this with people so you are all the first! I'm so nervous about the potential response to this and if people will even watch the whole thing, but I never have been bold enough to even attempt to do this if it wasn't for you guys xx I want to make videos a bit shorter than this and hopefully when the new computer comes and Final Cut Pro I'll be able to do even more stuff! Gonna try and get some time stamps on here too by EOD!

As usual any feedback and constructive criticism I will always appreciate <3

I recorded this before the protests, JKR, and a bunch of other things and while this video isn't perfect, I'm really proud of how it came out.

I am so glad I became a Patreon. As an East African (residing in Kenya), such takes are so important to me & so crucial to our collective understandings around imperialism/colonialism/occupation. It’s tragic that the West continually fails to understand why such stories must surpass these tired, inflated faux-harmonious narratives. Idk, perhaps consult with those of us immediately affected by empire? Also, big ups to you for the Aimé Césaire & Edward W. Said mentions!

I subscribed due to this video! I've always had very complicated feelings about the ending of Steven Universe (and specifically how Bismuth was written) and I felt like your video gave a really good perspective on the diamonds that had nuance I was missing. Thanks!

I loved your thorough analysis. Honestly, this is the content I've been craving! Your video got me to become a patron! I didn't realize there were this many animated shows that used the theme of colonization and imperialism. Thank you for laying out the parallels and differences between them to highlight the limits of using it as a theme and why I felt like something was missing from SU. Also your mention of Frozen 2 lead me to check out your Frozen 2 analysis video and the film itself. It was so good and definitely raises the standard for telling decolonial stories.

I couldn't finish it because I still have to watch the end of SU en She-Ra, but it made me a fan of your channel which led me to become a patron!

I love your nuanced takes on the themes running through all these shows. After watching this and your Catra video I signed up for patreon to be one of your supporters. I'm really reexamining my feelings about "redemption arcs" and the way media tends to gloss over the whole concept of reparations when dealing with villains. Thank you for your work and your insights. Can't wait to see what you do next!

Although your stats might already tell you this, I wanted to say on a human to human level that I loved this video and your commentary. I just signed up to be your patreon because of how much I enjoyed it. I can't wait to watch all your other videos.
