CYS Quick Tutorial1: Combining BG and Characters (Photoshop)

Hi, patrons!

As mentioned, I've prepared a quick tutorial for CYS. You should be able to create a combined background and character image in most image editors with layers functionality. This tutorial is based on the latest Windows version of Photoshop (25.12.0).

The sample PSD is currently uploaded to Google Drive and as an attachment.

I've also left the text embedded in the image below for those of you using a translator.

I will share more tutorials with you so that you can create more interesting images.

Thank you!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

File → Open to load the background image for the BG folder. I loaded "MainHome_01_Day_55mm_default.jpg"

Then, import the character. The easiest way is to select the desired character from the folder with the mouse and drag it to place it on the background.

You may have noticed that the character image has a square box around it. This feature allows you to resize the imported image. Once you've hit enter to finish importing the image, reposition the character with your mouse.

Let's make Karen a little bigger. With Karen's image selected, press "Ctrl+T" to bring up the rectangle box again. Adjust the rectangular box to resize and reposition the character.

That's it. You can save this file! At this point, you should be able to use any image editor that can handle layers.

To make your image even better, I'm going to give you a tip, and it involves utilizing a feature of Photoshop. Let's apply a blur to the background to make it more natural.

The layer on top obscures the layer on the bottom. Since we will apply an effect to the bottom layer (the background image), select the background in the Layers window.

In Photoshop, layers may not appear in your workspace because there are many different workspaces. You can bring up the Layers window by choosing Layers from the Menu - Window.

Select the background image, click Filter from the menu, and select Gaussian Blur, as shown in the image to the right.

Adjust the Radius value to adjust the strength of the blur, then click OK to finish applying the Filter.

The image is now more natural!

Finally, let's insert some text into the image, just like my comic.

Get ready to edit the text by pressing the keyboard shortcut "T" and clicking the mouse where you want to put the text. Then, insert the desired text. You should be able to use most fonts installed on your PC in the Properties window, and you can adjust the font size, color, etc., of the font. If you can't find the Properties window, you can bring up the Properties window just like you brought up the Layers window.

Press the keyboard shortcut "V" to select the Move Tool. In the Layers window, select the text, Karen, etc., and make final adjustments to the position of each element.

It's done!

Suzi can be imported the same way!
