The rigging tutorial video!
Added 2024-05-12 22:27:41 +0000 UTCEDIT: Whoops, already noticed one thing I never mentioned in the video: anytime you set an IK constraint, be sure to set it's "Chain Length" to the number of bones in that limb, starting at the bone getting the constraint (if you followed the same structure as me it should always just be 3), or weird shit's gonna go down.
I finally got around to going over that rigging stream and trying to tutorialize it a bit! This video starts with the model being ready to be rigged and takes you all the way through the process of building the rig and hooking the character up to it. There's a little more work that needs doing and will come in a future video, but if you can make it to the end of this you'll have a mostly usable rig ready to go.
I had to use google drive because it's a 1.5 hour long, nearly 2GB video, so too big to reasonably split up into pieces and post here directly. I've never used google drive before so hopefully this works. Lemme know if it doesn't!

Now, lemme take a sec to be clear about what this is. This is not a highly structured, thoroughly planned out tutorial- this is some very low production value stuff. I took the rigging stream, sped it up, cut out any useless bits and slapped some text on it explaining what I'm doing, and occasionally even why I'm doing it. If you try to follow this you'll have to put up with my terrible explanations and ADHD workflow where I often start doing something only to get distracted doing something else ten seconds in.
BUT, I'm hoping, a dedicated and determined viewer can follow what I put here, and with some patience, put together a rig from the ground up with this video.
I don't really know how useful it will be, but I did my best, and hopefully it's usable enough to put together a rig, with some effort on the viewer's part. But if you follow this and run into a major roadblock, feel free to let me know- if I see enough people getting stuck around a similar part of the video it's a good sign I need to explain something better.
And if you get any use of this at all, please speak up because oh my god video editing take so long and is awful I hate it.

2024-06-21 21:36:08 +0000 UTCIf possible, could you please add the Tutorial tag to part 1 and 2? Or maybe put them all in a Collection? It's amazing work and I'd love for it to be easy to find <3

2024-05-12 23:02:00 +0000 UTCthat's amazing, thank you so much for making this, there's some character stuff out there but when it comes to anthro like characters and similar there's just not many resources at all!

2024-05-12 22:37:22 +0000 UTCI should probably mention, this will be very tough to follow if you're a complete beginner. At the very least, you'll want to get comfortable with the basics of operating blender's different modes (object mode, edit mode, weight paint mode, etc), and an idea of how to make and use drivers wouldn't hurt either. But once you've got that, it should... hopefully be usable? Rigging is very complicated so hard to explain via text, hah. But I did my best!
