New 3D model- WIP sneak peek!
Added 2019-06-09 21:29:27 +0000 UTCA little something I'm currently working on. I wanted to make an avian character to learn and test out ideas for how to make a feathered character. I've got a pretty decent handle on fur, and basic scales were pretty easy, so if I can also comfortably make feathers I'll have the vast majority of the furry fandom covered and will be able to make most anything asked of me. Beyond that, my only real major hurdle is figuring out how to animate long hair. But, one thing at a time!
I'm posting this little WIP because I might not get to get much further before other things take my attention away, I've got to do the sketches for this month still (Sorry guys, this model's been distacting me!) and I'll have to build a model for that auction real soon, so there's a good chance this'll be set aside for a bit. But I got her modelled, textured and rigged, damn near finished in just a few days- definitely feeling good about that!
I still need to add in her filler fluff, she's bald except for the main feathers that really stand out, but I think should just be able to use the particle system for that, like with fur, and I'm liking how the feathers we do have are looking so far... Also need to build in her facial expressions, do some tweaks to stuff here and there, so there's still some work to do but all in all I'm excited about how she's turning out so far.
Getting those feet working was a real pain in the butt, and I have a feeling it's going to be tricky animating around them- that back toe really throws a wrench in otherwise standard movements- but I think I've got it working fairly well and I'm excited to show her in motion soon as I can!
Anyway, just a lil' WIP. I hope y'all are liking her so far, and as always I'd love to hear your thoughts!

That's definitely a tricky area, and I still need to perfect it. My strategy so far has been to make the hair on the breasts finer and finer until it's practically invisible right next to the nipple, so the sudden lack of hair over the areola doesn't look weird. 2019-06-09 23:21:58 +0000 UTCWell I'm looking forwards to this. Out of interest how do you plan to deal with the fur/nipple issue? As this is 3D you can't really use the nipple-floating-on-fur approach most artists tend to favour. :P

2019-06-09 22:25:53 +0000 UTCI'm not a huge horse fan as a general rule, but I'll keep it in the back of my mind! Really wouldn't hurt to have some base models of a wide variety of species on hand. We might see one pop up sooner or later. :P

2019-06-09 22:10:54 +0000 UTCI'm a little on the obsessed side lately, it's the only thing I really feel like doing. On the plus side all the practice has really made the process go faster, the Syandene model took me like three months to figure out, and this one is like on three of four days!
