Lets Talk Sponsorships

Hey guys!

Sorry there hasn’t been much of an update this month, mostly I’ve been extremely busy for the past few weeks making video deadlines for sponsorships and other stuff, so nothing much has happened that you aren’t aware of already haha.

But as we are on the topic of sponsorship, I thought it would be a good opportunity to talk to you all about it, since as just so happened to release two videos back to back that were sponsored (Naruto Online and Loot crate, I didn’t plan it that way the deadlines just happened to be right next to each other) and I know I will get a lot of comments and questions along the lines of:

“Why is Gigguk taking sponsorship deals when he has a patreon? Is he just really greedy for money?”

So while I don’t care too much about the average Jo who thinks that and doesn’t understand, I owe an explanation to you guys more than anyone so let me just make it clear.

In the long term, I would like to not be almost entirely reliant on Patreon. Don’t get me wrong, I’m more grateful than anyone that you guys are supporting me and allowing me to be able to do what I do, but as this is now my livelihood I have to start planning for the future. So while I am so happy with what I have now, it’s my nature to never assume that everything will always remain the steady, and that is especially true for this kind of job.

Right now my entire lively hood depends on the generosity of others (Thank You All), but who knows how this may change in 1, 2 or 3 years. Obviously I don’t expect all of you to support me for years and years and the internet especially, changes so rapidly that you always have to be prepared for anything. A few years ago people were maintaining their selves entire by uploading on a website called Blip, and I’m betting most of you don’t even remember that website, so in the end I always was looking for other avenues to sustain myself in the future, and one of those avenues would be opening up myself for sponsorships.

I do have my principles though, I won’t just be sponsored by anyone and anything, and any content I do put out that is sponsored will never be half arsed or done for a quick buck. The anime fights video took twice the amount of work than a normal video (hope it shows, as it’s twice the length too) and I will never let my quality suffer because of sponsored content. So while it inevitable that some people will see me as “selling out” (Hell, I already had plenty of those when I opened this patreon) I hope you all can see that I’m working as hard as I ever do, and most of the extra money I earn anyway always goes back to the content.

When I returned to YouTube, my first goal was to be able to sustain myself, but I never intended to be satisfied with just maintaining a steady rate. I had a lot of ambition, not only to grow but mostly to be able to work on bigger and better things that would not be possible unless I grow, and for this past month after the 6 months since I quit my job, YouTube has finally given me some momentum back, and now my channel is growing the way I wanted it too, and for that I can’t be more excited.

Again though, I’m just thinking ahead and that’s all. What’s important right now though is that you all have given me the opportunity to shoot for my ambitions, and for that I cannot thank you enough.

P.S I know I haven’t sorted out a hangouts this month or the giveaway, have no fret those will be sorted in the coming days. Sorry as I said I was super stacked up on work, hope you all understand!

2nd that

In my opinion, you're really a cut above the rest, mate. (kill me, I'm not British or Australian). At your current rate of support from patreon, I'd imagine that by next year, you'll be making some big moves. Anyways, I love your content. Please don't stop making videos. If I weren't a poor college student I'd support you more, but I guess that's something to expect in the future.

Don't worry, you're awesome. Keep working hard!
