Matt's Story (Part 1) Sonya's Story Series 2

Nathan coming over wasn’t something I’d normally get this worried about. Being my best friend for many years, we’d hung out on weekend nights countless times!

After what happened and what I told him last weekend, this time it felt massive to me. Felt so very important! It’s making me really nervous. Like I’m going to do or say something stupid.

The weight of my secret love for him had been weighing me down for years. I know they say you can’t help who you fall for, but after finding out about Sonya, I’d been really hoping there might be a chance he could love me back!

After that crazy weekend, I had a feeling it could be. Those kisses we shared. So amazing!

However, I’m still feeling tense! I think what’s making me worry the most is that we haven’t properly hung out since that night at the cabin.

Sure we’d hung out as normal at college, but not like we usually would!

Nathan’s really hit it off with Lara and I can see how positive that friendship is for him. I guess I can’t moan about them spending time together, I don’t know anything about female clothing or………girls in general.

“Mathew!?” I hear my mother bellow from downstairs.

Quickly standing and checking my reflection in the mirror, I rush to open my bedroom door.

“Yeah….?” I shout back, as my heart starts beating faster. I know what that means. Nathan is here.

“Nathans here!” She shouts back. “Are you decent? Do you want me to send him up!?”

Feeling a knot form in my throat, my breathing becomes heavy. I can’t believe Nathan is making me this nervous!

“S-send him up!” I croak back.

No reply back from mom, but I hear Nathan’s small footsteps coming up the stairs.

My head still poking out the door, I wait for him to appear.

“H-hey…,” I nervously mumble, as I see his messy black hair first.

Opening out my body and pushing back the door, I can’t bring myself to look at him as he walks over.

“Hi,” he responds, as he walks past me and into my room.

Wearing just a plain pair of shorts and a t-shirt, I could tell he hadn’t put much effort into his outfit. Feeling like I’m the female in our relationship, I’d spent hours figuring out mine. I’d put on a nice shirt for him and everything!

“Y-you ok?” I ask him, gently shutting the door behind me.

Watching him perch himself on the side of my bed, he looks up at me and gently nods. As his eyes meet mine, I feel my face go bright red.

“D-did…you have a nice time with Lara today?” I ask him, awkwardly standing and rubbing my arm.

“I did,” he replies with a small smile. “She plucked my eyebrows.”

Leaning towards me, he swipes away some of his hair and shows me his face.

“Do you think people will notice…?” he asks, running his finger across one.

I didn’t want to worry him, but they do look pretty feminine. Still, if he’s happy, I’m happy

“No…,” I eventually answer as he leans back and looks away.

Moving over to sit next to him on the bed, I place my hand on his knee. We don’t look at each other at that moment. I could feel my heart thumping away.

“I think you’re cute no matter what..,” I say, wanting to build him up and maybe kiss him.

Nathan doesn’t say anything. I feel him shift uncomfortably.

“That’s sweet…,” he mutters, shifting up in the bed away from me. “Maybe don’t say that too loud. Jade’s room is just there and she will hear you.”

Feeling the heat of embarrassment on my face, I skootch up next to him. Taking my hand from his knee, I lean my face towards him.

As Nathan turns his face to look at me and what I’m doing, I gently surprise him with a peck on his soft lips.

Leaving my face close to his, I feel him exhale. My lips quiver as I await his kiss in return.

I’m left disappointed. He doesn’t kiss me back, he just moves away and looks down at the floor.

“Not…..here,” Nathan whispers, folding his arms. “Someone could see us.”

“Sorry!” I instantly reply, rubbing my hands nervously. “It's just I haven’t seen you much recently!”

Nathan looks over at me and frowns.

“Dude…,” he grumbles, giving me a confused look. “We see each other at school…all day.”

As I open my mouth to answer, we both jump as my bedroom door swings wide open. As Jade bursts into my room, I feel a small bit of relief she hadn’t done that moments before when I was trying to kiss him

That really would have outed us both!

“Matt….,” she barks obnoxiously, standing in my bedroom doorway with a stupid look on her face. “Mom wants to know if you guys want any drinks…?”

“No Jade,” I whine at her. “Get out.”

“Fine…,” she huffs and turns to look at Nathan. “What about you Nathan…? You’re usually wanting to drink us clean out of Soda. Do you not want anything?”

Giving my sister a dirty look, I look over a Nathan looks like Jade has just shot her. He seems petrified.

“Nathan…?” she asks again impatiently.

“N-no….,” he finally answers, talking to his feet. “I’m ok Jade thanks.”

“O…kay…,” Jade sarcastically replies, putting her hand on the door handle and giving me a stupid grin.

“Go away Jade,” I groan.

Staring me down, her silly grin soon turns to daggers.

“So rude…..!” she gripes, half closing the door and half standing in the doorway. “I hope you don’t talk to Sonya like that!”

The mention of Sonya makes both of us flinch. I feel my heart pounding like crazy and my face going brighter red than before.

“Oh…..,” Jade continues, opening the door again and pointing at my face. “Is that a sore subject? Should I not bring up this mysterious girl we are all yet to meet!?”

I can’t help but look down at the floor. So uncomfortable and having Nathan in the room made it even worse!

“Do you know about this Sonya girl Nathan…?” Jade questions.

Slowly looking up, I see Nathan shaking his head but not saying a word. I then quickly turn my head to look at Jade's reaction. She looks confused.

“You guys are being weird tonight,” she scoffs, flicking her hair back out of her eyes. “Shouldn’t you both be arguing about a video game or something by now!?”

“We don’t have to be playing video games all the time..!” I answer, standing up from the bed and moving towards the door.

Jade looks up at me and gives me a wry smile.

Putting my hand on the door, I start closing it. Jade fights back at first, but I overpower her. Eventually, she gives in and lets out a long sigh.

“Dork!” she yells, as I shut the door on her.

Brushing off my sisters and attitude, I turn the lock on my door. Then looking back at Nathan with a nervous grin, I see he’s still staring at his feet.

“Sorry about that,” I say, moving back to sit next to him.

“I should go….,” Nathan then says, surprising me and making me instantly worried.

As sit next to him on the bed, I put my hand on his shoulder. He looks up at me for a second, before looking back down at the floor. His face is bright red!

“No don’t…,” I plea, moving close to him. “What's the matter?”

He shuffles again and moves away.

“Nothings wrong,” he mumbles. “Just… feeling a little sick.”

“Need me to get you anything?” I ask, moving my hand that’s on his shoulder and running it through his thick black hair.

After a moment or two, he looks up at me and gently smiles. His smile makes me feel a little more at ease.

“You guna stay and watch a film with me then?” I bashfully ask, still holding my hand in his hair.

He gently nods and smiles.

“Cool!” I cheer, feeling the fear of rejection washing away.

Taking my hand from his hair, I grab the TV remote. Switching on my TV, I move up on my bed and lay down with enough room for him to lay next to me.

“Wanna cuddle?” I ask him, patting the bed. “The door locks on. No one will see.”

As I get comfortable, I watch him think over what I’d just said. To my relief, he awkwardly bundles over me on the bed and lays down next to me.

Putting his head onto my chest, I throw my arms around him and pull him in close.

I feel myself getting excited as I look down at the two of us together. I’d wanted this for so long!

“What film..?” Nathan asks, moving his head on my chest to get into a comfortable place to watch the TV.

Turning on a streaming service, I flick to a film I know he likes.

“Perfect,” Nathan mutters as I press play.

The film starts to play and my heart rate begins to finally slow down. After about thirty minutes, I’m super relaxed.

“Matt…..,” Nathan whispers out of the blue, still looking at the TV. “I’m so sorry that Barry and his stupid gang have been picking on you all this week. I hate it.”

Just as I’d calmed down, he brings back the worry. It had been hard with them threatening me all week. It was worth it, but after Lara told us not to say anything, we’d all kinda just had to get on with it.

“Don’t worry Nath,” I casually remark, not wanting to show how frustrating it is. “It was worth it!”

Nathan slides his head back to look at me. He gives me the biggest cutest smile.

“It means a lot to me,” he continues to whisper.

I smile back at his adorable face.

Then, out of nowhere, Nathan sits up and reaches into his pocket to look at his phone. I look at him with curiosity as he swipes open his phone and studies the screen intently.

His expressions make me worry a little.

“I’ve gotta go!” he says, quickly sliding his phone into his pocket.

“Why?” I question, feeling frustrated as he clambers over me and gets off the bed.

“Lara wants me to call her.” He replies, moving towards my bedroom door.

I sit up and frown at him.

“Just call her from here,” I tell him, wondering why he has to leave.

“I don’t want to Matt,” he answers, shaking his head.

What can’t he say to her in front of me!? Why does she get more attention now than me!?

“Why not?” I ask, hiding my true feelings from him. “Is this about me….!? Is that why you’re running off like this?”

“No,” Nathan instantly answer, almost like he’s annoyed I’ve asked. “I will just see you later, ok.?”

Looking away from him, I hear the door unlock and open.

“See you later Matt,” he says softly.

“Bye,” I flippantly reply, gritting my teeth. “Tell Lara I said hello,” I continue with a sarcastic tone.

Not saying another word, he gently closes the door.

Letting out a long sigh, as I sit alone in my room, I can’t believe he’s just ditched me like that for Lara!
