My main issue is that emotionally intense films can shape how people see the world and fuel stereotypes, whether real or imagined. I’ve literally worked on both sides of the real-life circumstances this story purports to live within, and it's obvious that the premises were influenced by subjective media sources that glorify one side and vilify the other. When art is politically motivated, it’s just propaganda by another name. I’m genuinely curious — what exactly did you find political in Maverick? I find it particularly apolitical, strikingly free of any real-world political groups or adversaries. In fact, the real antagonist wasn’t the "Superior" enemy force they were up against… it was their own mind. And that’s what made the impossible possible, which really reflects well the original movie that inspired it. That's why many people flocked to see and spent money to watch it, not because of politics.

Still, I also think it's good when we (the collective we) are making art that has a clear political point of view. Especially when there's so much going on. I'd also push back if someone says that the problem with this film is that it's too political, but that a film like say, Top Gun: Maverick (which I love, to be clear) somehow isn't also political. Of course it is. That doesn't mean one has to feel the same way about the two films, of course. But it's worth acknowledging that the objection isn't the presence or absence of politics, it's that you object to the politics of one and not the other. Speaking from the US, whatever one thinks of the French 75 (and to be clear, I definitely don't think the film is presenting them as doing the right thing--nobody is meant to see Perfidia as a hero)... the Christmas Adventurers are barely satire, and nothing about the detention centers was invented. Small point of clarification--while Leo's affinity for models considerably younger than him is well-documented (whatever one thinks of that!), he isn't in the Epstein files in any meaningful way--just as a name brought up in emails, not someone who knew Epstein or did any of the stuff.

I'm also a bit confused on what they tried to highlight in the movie, perhaps about the recent events happening in the world, sometimes i really try to avoid those movies because i want to escape reality with a movie not watching " reality TV. " If that makes sense. But it wasnt that bad. So i would also rate it a 3.5 / 4 star out of 5 for a good story, good actors & actresses. Looking forward to the next movie with you. :)

I still feel like this movie stole two and a half hours of my life I’ll never get back. Certain individuals in Hollywood - especially those like Penn and DiCaprio - embrace roles that turn anarchists into heroes and those in authority into cartoon villains. This one’s packed with ridiculous caricatures that distort reality and ultimately sow needless cultural division, as it purports to plant itself in current events. Sure, it's a feast for the eyes, but it smells bad, and I don't need this in my diet, so I can't give it more than 3 stars... Great reaction, Biss, you came through unscaved as always. Remember, this is fiction, of course, made in the land of make-believe. :P
