Yeah best thing about Re:Zero is the mystery and trying to guess. It's almost impossible to guess where the author takes you with this rollercoaster.

You might not remember it, but back during the movie, the "black stuff" Emilia was fighting, Puck said it was the Black Serpent, one of the great mabeasts. I feel like most people who react to this show have forgotten about that by this point in time, so I wanna remind that. Emilia here was technically posessed by Satella because of her mind was so broken because of what she experienced during the trial. Nobody really knows why she did it but the biggest theory that everyone seems to agree with was that Subaru told Echidna about Return By Death and she couldn't enter the tea party so she ended up taking over Emilia's body who was already mentally unstable. Roswaal absolutely knows that there is something up with Subaru. A few episodes ago, when Subaru and Roswaal were talking Subaru offhandedly says "this time" referencing to his ability and Roswaal picks up on that by repeating that by saying "this time?". It's clear to see that he knows SOMETHING but he just doesn't fully know the whole picture.

The reason witch of Envy appeared (although being sealed) was because taboo was broken and RBD has been mentioned so many times, considering Witch of Envy couldn’t directly enters dream world at the time, she forced Subaru to return and then punished him by taking him

2025-03-24 20:17:47 +0000 UTCI think we're forgetting the most simple reason why The Witch of Envy would show up: Subaru told someone about Return by Death and for some reason she could not enter the domain to enact punishment to silence him. So she took form in the real world and is now deciding to go after Subaru's loved ones. Also yeea its funny that the Roswaal revealation should not be that surprising cos we've suspected him for so long.. but it still manages to be a good surprise when he just comes out and implys directly he knows about RBD.
