2025-03-11 01:45:30 +0000 UTCThe anime doesn't go into to any detail with the relationship between Erwin Smith and Nile Dok the commander from the Military Police. Erwin and Nile go way back and are in fact very good friends. In fact, in the manga it's explained that Erwin and Nile trained together as cadets. Furthermore one day they both fell in love with the same girl who happened to be Marie. So that's who Erwin was talking about when Nile visits him in the cell in this episode. You see Erwin backed off pursuing a relationship with Marie and gave Nile the green light to pursue her back when they were cadets. Nile and Marie eventually got married and had kids. Erwin bringing up Marie and the kids was him reminding Nile of their friendship and what is at stake. P.S. When are we getting the Levi and Annie OVA reactions? Will it be after season 3 and alongside the Mikasa OVA?

Hitch was a recruit, its completely reasonable that she did not know. There is no social media in this world; if the paper does not write about it and the gossip is controlled, then there shouldn't be much shock about low ranking recruits not knowing. She's not a dumbass lol.
