One that is just as confused as us and doesn’t know anything about this world. None of their ideas end up being the right ones so it’s funny for them to criticize him when they’d be failing just as badly or worse. Especially once they start expecting him to get used to dying and using his powers in a way that is later revealed to be the wrong type of mindset lol

Like what can he do, like Otto said they are both weak people and Subaru's mental state at this point is already borderline insane to chaotic, so there is no chance he can react or understand situations when he has had no break but constant torture.

One of the hardest thing is to just keep understanding that he is still teenager just barely 18 and all the BS he has faced till episode 18 would make any normal modern person go insane like he did. Like 99% of people would have quit already, but Subaru's strength is his mental and stubborn personality.

For me it's interesting to see how people react to weakness in characters instead of your typical overpowered mc. It's not that Subaru has anything going for him in either brains or brawn, and yet even when he’s trying something he gets clowned on. We always celebrate that super strong person that comes in and knows exactly what to do and saves the day, but we detest that “useless” guy. You have to understand that it's exactly why he acts the way he does. Probably because there is a yearning there, to try to be that somebody for someone. He wants to be that super strong person that comes in and saves everyone but he can’t. When he asks for help, it doesn’t go well so what is he supposed to do? I’m just trying to make a picture of the desperation and mental wellbeing of Subaru in those particular moments. Now the first time I watched this It's not that I liked his character, but at the same time I wasn't really happy to see him getting kicked around. I remember one point in the video Ali mentions that Subaru should be used to dying by now. A good example to relate to this in my opinion is getting extremely sick perhaps on the verge of dying. You’ll never really get used to it, just try to remember all the pain and agony.
