A small update on next patch

Hello everyone!

I hope all of you are safe and happy in your houses. The global situation can be a bitch to some of us, so, keep going fellas, everything will be fine.

In this post ill just tell you about some of the delays, desitions and stuff i been having this week (all related to the game of course). If you don't wanna read it there is a TLDR at the bottom.

What's going on with the game?

I been secretly (well not, so, secretly in the last month) preparing and working to update the game visuals for the last 4 months. This came up together with some other improvements i wanted to make, and it was possible due to two big factors:

A friend helped me kickstart it and just do it, rather than keep planning it for the future, and also in these last two months, the game started gaining some traction, and i could start saving a bit of money for comissioning the assets i needed.

Particularly textures, as 3d texturing is something i have grow to almost-hate, and that im terrible at, so i choose for the base textures to be done by someone who actually knows what he's doing.

So i wanna thank all of you who supported the project, and even help spreading the word, this is possible thanks to your help! (And that is why i always ask for people to help me getting the game to be more known, it enables the game to grow even more!)

After a lot of delays, some were caused by the current global situation, some were caused by other people's delays who delayed me, and some delays were due to personal problems, i finally got the new model to work with around two weeks ago.

And then i faced a new problem: In my head the new game model would look in a way, and with a particular style that would be very cool, but in reality it wasn't. Not because the 3d modeler (Zaz) did a bad job, he did a splendid base mesh, and the Texturer (D.Leo) did also aswell, but because the idea that i had in my mind wasn't really doable. This is hard to explain.

What basically happened is that i wanted to try a particular style, but i had some specifications that had to be met in order for it to work with the game (a particular size, eye and mouth positions, ir order to do not screw up animations). And when everything was done i realized that i didn't like much the style it ended up.

So i started a new quest to find a personal style for the game, and it was enlightening as fuck, i did so many variations to the face meshes and imitated various -other games characters- face styles, and i couldn't find anything that i really enjoyed and that fited the Kinky Fight Club's base identity.

26 different faces later i started finding a style that i liked, and that it isn't something taken out of another game, but rather a style that i kind of find like personal. Of couse someone somewhere should have done something like this, but i find this style the one im happiest with, because i like and because i did it myself. It may sound kind of good now, but i wrecked my head for a whole week trying to find what was wrong with my designs that nothing was good.

And in case you didn't realize at this point, im a bit obsessive, i like to make things as good as possible (considering my current skills).

But, in the end this is what i ended up with:

Dont pay attention to the facial expressions, i haven't touched those yet, i still have a bazillion things to do to update the game, updating the models was a way bigger deal than i originally anticipated.

I still have to work on the lights (as im finally able to get rid of a error i been dragging for almost a year), some of the clothing interactions with the lights, skin, and faces, and well, a lot of things.

When will april's big update come up?

With some luck i may be able to get it for the 14-15th. The quarintine is actually allowing me to work more (did around 45-55 hours last week), but there is a lot of content to re-do. (Like the Character cards, and All the Art Assets for promoting the game).

So please be a bit patient, the next update will include all the new characters aswell as the -Player requested - Feature to have "Guest" characters in your game, so you guys and girls can share your favorite characters with each other! (in a much easier way than it currently is). But im not sure how many new animations ill be able to do, or if i will be able to finish the next character in time for the update.

I think that is all i wanted to say, it is mostly that im working on the game but progess is way slower than i originally tought. I really hope you like the new models and enjoy the game's upgrades!

And hey, thanks again! This wouldn't be possible to do all by myself!

Working on the game, progress is slow, next update for around April 15th.

Uh.. Sorry, I'm not looking down on your taste, but I feel that the new models are a bit.. scary. Well, it's a matter of taste but it's a total turn off for me to be honest. I suggest you change the eye and mouth part, especially the eye. Somehow I feel like looking at 5 nights at Freddy when I saw the new models..

I feel like the pupils in the eyes are a little too small, I understand facial animation will fix allot but the lack of eyelids and small pupils feels kinda off. Either way love the progress you're making i'm keen to see how this game turns out! :D

i actually tought on that, until i started messing with it. My plan was to use Blendshapes, at least to have them on the body so in the future i could slowly go adding it to clothing, but blendshapes doesn't mix well between themselves, and the end results of combining boob size + weight + booty size ended up being a hellish nightmare of clipping everywhere. That's when i started looking how Enlit3d did it, if at some point i have enough free time to learn how to use IK it may be possible to add it, just not for now that im terribly under a lot of work. Also i don't really agree with Enlit3d's desition to stop the games, i love his games, and what basically kickstarted me to make a game was Heroine Rumble being cancelled. He's a hero for me hehehe

Enlit3D is a bad example. He hasn't finished a project yet. Just gets bored, declares it finished, and moves on.

In the first image of the new design their eyes look freakish. It looks better on the custom char. Even though the new bodies look pretty awesome I think the faces still need some work (or made less realistic to avoid the Uncanny Vally effect).

I see. I guessed the technical side of things but I was thinking this change in model would be an opportunity for you to implement something bigger for the future.

The idea is great, but the problem is not the model per se, but rather the animations. Enlit3d uses IK for animations a system im not proficient with at all, which basically tracks every bone position and realigns in realtime to match the desired animation, and then he just scales the bones to create the different sizes in stuff. Now, i can scale the bones (in fact, the old boob-size system was just scaling the chest bones, but if i do that to other bones actually used in animations shit starts to break because of mismatchs and since i dont know how to use IK there is nothing to "realign it".

It's really nice. If I were you though, I would use this opportunity to lay the ground work to make a more customizable 3D model in terms of proportions. That way, we would be able to change other things than just butt size and boob size. Take Heroine Rescue Team from Enlit3D for example. That said, I understand that it's a lot of work and it can be tricky for the animations but I think it would be a great asset to have for your future games. Otherwise, great job! The eyes on the new model look a bit too small in my opinion and it kind of makes the characters look like psychos. Maybe it's because I'm not used to it yet. The lips are also a bit derpy in my opinion. These details aside, the new models look promising!
