When Demi attempted to cross the barrier of light, she felt her flesh disintegrating, similar to how a vampire reacts when exposed to sunlight. Given the speed at which it was destroying her body, crossing the barrier and regenerating would be a challenge, especially since Demi had never tested the limits of her physical abilities.
