So I love the set design. And the texture. I just watched the first episode and it didn’t grab me as much as I wanted it to. There’s something about Greyworm’s (lol) character that doesn’t have enough gravitas to for me in the part-Shelby they asked him to play — but the other actor absolutely does. He comes off as a lead. I just don’t feel the chemistry between them, and thus the emotions don’t hit as much as they should. Maybe because it was so fast? You’d have to have fire chem to sell this in one ep. I’ll try another!

This universe is incredibly rich and full of amazing stories and lore. Also Greg and this is just a suggestion but this show is on Netflix now so you don’t have to deal with commercials and also the syncing is different between the two apps so it’s takes some patience and a keen eye to actually sync with you guys after you have the commercial breaks

2026-01-20 16:58:46 +0000 UTCAnne Rice is religious, left the Catholic church, rejoined in 1990s, wrote religious novels in the 2000s, and then distanced herself from *organized* religion, but remained religious. She is also widely well-regarded among the LGBTQ+ community for writing these novels where gay people see themselves in the vampires. The novels are written from the pov of vampires being seen as tragic and sensitive people who must keep a secret and live with shame, isolated, and socially alienated. The same-sex relationship in the books is interpretive. There's no mention of sex between the two. In 2012, Anne confirms they can be viewed as a same-sex couple. It was not originally intended, but it's basically accepted canon now. And Anne Rice liked that gay people felt seen by the books and viewed them as gay allegory, which she says in a 2017 interview by the Daily Beast. Anne and Christopher Rice (her son) are/were executive producers of the show. Christopher Rice is gay, and also an author. He writes thriller, suspense, and gay erotic fiction. It is always weird to me when people are surprised that homosexuality can live among religion. Lots of allies and gay people are religious. I'm gay and graduated from a Catholic University in Theology under a very affirming professor. I've always been religious, and I've always been gay. Being gay and being in gay relationships is not a sin, so it does not contradict my religious beliefs. I had a lot of shame because of religion, but I was also saved from that shame by religion. Conservatism and Traditionalism is not the only way to look at religion, or Christianity, and Theology classes taught me that. Lastly, you can feel seen in toxic relationships. The two are not mutually exclusive. Anyways, loved watching the reaction! Thanks for doing this series.
