I never really thought of this as a "cry movie".. But more of just an absolutely perfect movie. Great story, great acting, Great music. This is in my top 10 most perfect movies ever made.

Thomas Newman is my favourite composer. The Horse Whisperer is still one of my favourite movie scores. It has a lot similarities to the music in Shawshenk Redemption. Loved watching this masterpiece with you again.😊

Haven't listened to the entire post movie confab but I have to say, I love this movie but it does overwhelm the emotions. I first saw it when it hit video - 1995, probably - I was either 20/21. The movie wrecked me. It wasn't all the hardships throughout, it was that release at the end, where Red and Andy reunite on the beach. At that point, there's no doubt Red makes it to Andy. If this had originally ended with Red on the bus, I don't think I would have liked it as much. It'd take maybe a point off of my score. It's hope rewarded, rather than just hope. And at that time in my life, I needed to see hope rewarded. It helped so much. I haven't seen the movie in a few years, I have a lot of big life changes in that time. To see that hope rewarded, its almost exactly as it was when I was 20/21 in '95. I needed that. One interesting thing about Red's last parole hearing that I never see anyone address is the board itself. Yes, Red's speech is great and it definitely him at his most honest about himself and the situation. I always noticed the Board. The other times we saw it, they were old, white men. The makeup of the 66 Board were younger men and the addition of a woman. If Red had given that speech previously, I doubt he would've been released. These were younger people and the demographic widened. Prison reform was starting to really become a thing around this time period. So I always thought the composition of the Board members was the key to his release, more than what he was actually saying. You see it in the way the younger man discusses Red's responses. I don't know if anyone else ever felt that way about that parole board scene/why Red waa finally released. I'd be interested to know if anyone else had a similar thought. Lastly, I'm a King fan. More of his stuff like this than his horror novels. He has a real talent for this kind of writing and hope if he continues to write - as his health is becoming an issue - he focuses on this kind of stuff. Amazingly, I haven't yet read the short story/novella this is based on, but I will soon. I can say I have read THE GREEN MILE and it's one of my few instances where the film is better than the book. I hate the way the story is structured in the book and the characters aren't quite as good. I can't say why on that latter part much as I don't know if Coy has filmed his TGM reaction yet. Another great short story turned film by King is APT PUPIL. Sir Ian McKellen and Brad Renfro. Highly recommend either one. It's a really chilling kind of story, that human horror King is so good at.

one of my favourites, one of the best endings in any movie ever, the warden really is one of the greatest movie villains ever. My favourite of stephen king adaptations alongside stand by me, it (2017) and misery, curious to see where the long walk ranks among them, seeing that and downton abbey the grand finale in less than 24 hours, making my total of movies seen this year 91 :)
