To be fair, in relation to 1 not addressing the events of 5 (outside of the obvious one of that it hadnt been written), Tony Todd does bring up that this has happened before. And none of them had heard any stories about crazy coincidental deaths after a tragic event. Also, I doubt high school students would be that attuned to the news. I know some may be, but really none of the ones involved in 1 struck me as the type to care. They mightve heard about the bridge collapse and since the weird deaths happened so quickly around each other, it's possible it didn't make big news. There are definitely ways to explain away the "plot hole" in 1 of the events of 5 not being discussed.
