Chapter 96 of Shrouded Destiny (SD) is out for Squires!

Those of you who haven't done so already, feel free to return to 95 and give it a reread - a new PoV has been added, everything has been cleaned up and edited, and the chapter has swelled to over 14k words. Once again, my apologies for the lacklustre chapter you received previously.

And well... this is it. The ending of Shrouded Destiny, the final part of the Epilogue. It makes me feel nostalgic, but I believe it's a fitting ending, because if I keep going, I don't think I'll ever run out of minor plots to write. It's a bit unedited as most of my editors are on holidays/or working, but any changes would be at most cosmetic touch up.

I would love some feedback, for this is it. This is the end of Shrouded Destiny, and next week we'll begin with No Joy in Command-a far shorter story.

Anyway, it has been a great honour and pleasure to write you can read the previous chapters in the collection.

Extras here, including family trees, an excerpt on religion, and new orders and stuff.

I forgot that you had a Patreon. It was great reading the last few chapters of this amazing story. I like how it ended.

Star445

Love the updates and extras! Thanks for an amazing ride!

I have. Ultimately, I believe the heroes of Marvel/Dc to be dreadfully boring characters, so I decided against it. That and the fact that both Marvel and DC are too 'big' for their own good.

Gladiusx

It's just as worse in the steppe horse-riding societies irl. Mongols strapped women after birth back to the saddle with planks if they had to at some point. The mongolian steppe was a harsh place, and gave birth to even harsher people. Khal Drogo's abandonment of Daenerys was meant as a mercy. But as everything else with the Dothraki, their particular brand of mercy is quite unique.

Gladiusx

Have you considered doing a Marvel or DC crossover fic?

TyrantGod

That's gotta suck super hard for Dany. Birth Khal Drogo two daughters and he nopes the fuck outta there. Granted, AFIAK, she was 13 when she married and probably 14 when she birthed kids, so a month-long recovery time at that age is not out of the realm of possibility. But medieval shenanigans ensue. But it is understandable from a certain aspect, GoT has always been about the strong ruling the weak, and having a weak wife would invite opportunities for enemy Khals to try and cause problems.

Rival

Naruto is a tragedy...I always read it as a fan translation shortly after it was published (started around when they meet the two brothers on the way to Wave). I even started reading fanfiction with Naruto. There are some good old FF, one where Naruto loses a leg and becomes a puppeteer, for example (and leaves Konoha). Good Ende for SD and thank you.

Grimgoth

Man, after reading since the almost the beginning, when I first found you on SB, I also have GoT fatigue. I really enjoyed how this was, in the beginning, a very Jon-centric story, as that was what I was looking for at the time. The spread to other PoVs and Jon becoming fairly secondary, really helped the narrative of the story come to fruition. There’s a lot to be said about this fic, but I’ll gather my thoughts later. Long live Garlan! As I’ve said before, I really do believe Garlan was your best written character, with the best storyline. I’m looking forward to your next story, and the next chapter of CoF

pangoid

Yea I can see that and add to the fact that for a galactica empire the books only really talk about three planets I can see how it would be hard to do a fanfiction about that story.

Bertram K Reese

Yes, and I quickly decided against it. I don't enjoy Dune as a setting itself. It's pretty... messy, for lack of a better term. You can call it scattered/chaotic, too, I suppose. And it's world-building is quite narrow, if you consider the plot is mostly contained in a single planet considering the galactic empire background.

Gladiusx

Great way to end the story I know you said you growing a bit tried of writing things from the GOT universe. Have you ever thought about a Dune fan faction

Bertram K Reese

Star Wars is good, but yes, I agree that the universe is too big, and a story would have to be a few million words and you would inevitably piss someone off because you didn't do something they would do (granted, that's a risk with every story). But also, it would be interesting to see a High Republic-era fanfic, as I'm not currently aware of very many versus the mind-boggling amount of the Clone Wars era. So at that, you would have a lot of leeway I think, depending on what you want to do with it. PJO and Naruto could be done, but I think it would have to be with OCSI's or a canon divergence/AU tag, as the author's really hamstringed them in my opinion. Or, you could do all the rage of the celestial forge or gamer fics around. Maybe a isekai into a specific setting?

Rival

No Joy in Command won't be a long story. I have entrained dabbling in Star Wars (too much lore-setting a bit too big and disjointed for my taste), PJO (tricky because the world building is the opposite, canon is too narrow, event wise), and Naruto (I actually dislike almost every character here, and the world building had all the reasons to be cool and gritty, but the author who did a very good Wave Arc was browbeaten by his publisher to write a full kiddie story rife with pacifism).

Gladiusx

It's amusing how the throne ends up in a Lannister, Baratheon, Stark and Targaryan line, with some wildling thrown in (blood-wise).

Eric Lachance

Thanks for the chapter. One of the best GoT fics out there. I'd say maybe do some small, sub-50k stories or 1-shots to keep those creative juices flowing until you want to undertake a longer story. What other story universes have you wanted to play in?

Rival

the Others are done, and Dany is alive and mostly irrelevant.

Gladiusx

Masterfully done on the story. It would be great to see few more epilogues of other characters like Dany, remains of Tyrell’s and Jon’s family.

Garri Sarkisov

So is Dany alive at the end of the story? Are the WW permanently gone?

TyrantGod

Oh my goodness! I'm so sad its over, but I am also glad it came to a good ending. Massive well done

Echo Watkins

Incredible work! I thought the final chapters before the large timeskip were the best I have read in GoT fanfiction. And it was of a time that GRRM himself still hasn't been able to write about. The ending felt a bit rushed to me, but still very satisfying. You and AnimaniacDude are my favorites in GoT.

marten

11 fucking kids god damn Jon and Val. Did Jon name one of his sons Rob like he wanted to in Canon? Also I love the ending although I'm slightly sad to see this story done. I've been following since chapter 13. Great story and I can't wait for the next.

Jacob Hall

You did a fantastic job with this, your edit of chapter 95, and the entire story. Can't wait for the next one.

Perraup

Rhaegar's brilliant 8th dimensional underwater chess move of a master plan comes to fruition at the end: his silver haired Valyrian-named grandson is King. 😂

Yeno Memevig

Thanks for the story Glad. Congrats on finishing. It's been a wild ride.

Yeno Memevig

Twenty.

Gladiusx

One Question, how old was Artos when he died?

Abhishek Kumar

This was a brilliant end. And Rhaegar's line sits on the Throne in the end. most fitting end indeed.

Abhishek Kumar

Thank for the chapter and it was a great story, one of the best fanfic’s on Asoiaf community! Thx Gladius

Ulquiorra Schiffer

I am both sad and happy to see this story done, this was an amazing read.
