It's from a fantasy books series by Leigh Bardugo The Grisha trilogy. They are making tv series on Netlfix based on the books right now. And the lore of this world is heavily inspired by a very....artifical and western look upon russian culture and folklore. As a russian I have VERY mixed feelings about this fandom since I am glad that someone in inspired by my culture...but there are some...ehm..things which are...sort of..a bit creepy for me as a russian, let's put it like this. Like the author calls the guards "oprichnik" just like one would call a basic officer...and she seems not to know that oprichniks in russia were a special force, not just any guard and they were extremely brutal and are associated with terror and torture. Well...like SS soldiers in fascist germany.
