Chapter 1185: A Loving Father and Filial Daughter

“Obviously to hide it. If the FBI finds it, they’ll use it as evidence to charge you with three counts of murder. You’ll spend the rest of your life in a federal prison,” Andrew Kane declared righteously, acting as though everything he did was for her own good.
“Really?” Megan’s lips curled into a mocking smile. She reached into her delicate clutch and pulled out her phone.
“This phone contains all the information about my clients, including you. I used the money you gave me back then to buy it from Katherine Villa—though there are a few new names added since then.
You’ll find photos, their preferences, the secrets they shared with me—everything is in here.”
Though he sensed something off in her tone, Andrew was already too excited to notice. He reached out eagerly to grab it.
“Wait.”
Megan deftly stepped aside, moving around to the other side of the coffee table to face him again. “Dad, are you really here for me?”
Andrew froze. His face darkened slightly, but he forced a smile. “What are you talking about, sweetheart? Of course I’m here for you.”
“Is that so?” Megan placed the phone on the table and picked up the two glasses of wine that had been poured long ago. “I can’t remember the last time we sat down and had a drink together. Can you grant me this one small wish?”
“What are you saying?” Andrew’s smile stiffened. Uneasy, he glanced at the two glasses of wine and said evasively, “The FBI could show up at any moment. Once I get you out on bail, we’ll have plenty of time for wine.”
“I know what you’re worried about.” Megan swirled the two glasses together, her smile growing increasingly sorrowful as tears streamed down her cheeks. “But this is my final wish. You can’t even fulfill this one?”
As she downed one glass in a single gulp, Andrew instinctively reached out. But the moment his fingers brushed the rim, he recoiled as if shocked—watching helplessly as Megan collapsed onto the sofa.
The wine glass landed silently on the thick carpet, spilling a bright crimson stain that looked just like blood.
“Daddy… don’t leave me…” Megan’s pleading voice reached his ears.
Andrew hesitated again, starting to reach out, but then abruptly pulled back. Clenching his jaw, he snatched the phone from the table and turned to bolt for the door.
Behind him, Megan’s eyes flashed with grim resolve. She staggered to her feet, retrieved a small pistol from her purse, and aimed it at her father’s back.
“Megan, stop!” A figure suddenly burst out of the bathroom.
Bang! Megan’s arm was forcefully lifted, and the bullet struck the ceiling.
Andrew, just steps from the door, froze mid-stride. At that moment, the suite door was kicked open, and Clay and Aubrey stormed in, guns drawn.
“Freeze! Andrew Kane, you’re under arrest!”
“You… you—!”
Andrew looked back at his daughter in disbelief, only to see the figure carry Megan into the bathroom.
JJ followed close behind. When she saw the spilled wine on the carpet, her gaze snapped to the stunned Andrew in horror. “You just watched her drink poisoned wine?!”
“I—I didn’t know there was poison in it…” the old man stammered, lips trembling with a flimsy excuse.
Hannah rushed into the bathroom, taking Megan from the arms of the man inside. Jack quickly unscrewed the showerhead, yanked out the swivel pipe to reveal the inner soft white tube, and forced it into Megan’s mouth, turning on the water.
While holding back her resistance, he barked over his shoulder, “Call 911—tell them it’s likely ‘TETS’ poisoning!”
No sooner had he spoken than Megan’s struggle began to weaken. As soon as Jack pulled out the tube, a violent geyser shot from her mouth.
“She’ll be okay, right?” Hannah asked worriedly.
“She’ll be fine. This poison doesn’t act that fast—if you flush the stomach in time, it’s manageable.”
Once Megan was done vomiting, and only dry heaving remained even with Jack’s fingers down her throat, he stuffed the hose back in again without the slightest concern for gentleness.
After several rounds of this, by the time paramedics arrived, Megan had been thoroughly drained—but was out of danger.
Meanwhile, outside the hotel, the press had already formed a wall around the entrance. As Andrew Kane was escorted into a police car, the rapid-fire of cameras lit up the night like daybreak.
District Attorney Patrick Jackson arrived on the scene with a complicated expression. “Agent Tavor, if I remember correctly, I specifically asked that everything be handled discreetly until the truth came out.”
Jack handed him Megan’s phone. “Well, the truth is out now. Everything you need is in here. We also recorded everything that just happened—I’ll send you a copy.”
Jackson’s expression changed as he gripped the phone tightly, his voice quivering slightly. “Is it what I think it is?”
Jack didn’t let go of the phone. “Yes. Everything. But I promised Megan Kane that this would all be made public.”
Seeing Jackson hesitate, Jack narrowed his eyes and added pointedly, “That was her only condition for handing it over. She didn’t even ask for a plea deal.”
After a moment’s silence, Jackson nodded heavily. “Understood. Hand it over.”
Taking the phone, the DA’s expression softened into a knowing smile. “Still, I doubt any jury would be too hard on that poor girl. Don’t you think?”
Jack smiled back. “Unless the judge manages to assemble a jury made entirely of elite power brokers without any ‘bias.’”
The DA laughed as if Jack had told a joke. “You think that’s even possible? Getting all of Dallas’ power players in one room?”
He really gets it. Jack was slightly surprised. The two men shared a hearty laugh.
“Jack?” JJ arrived just then, her voice cutting through the conspiratorial air between them.
She looked at the two men, confused at how they could be laughing in a moment like this. Her tone was unreadable. “Megan refuses to get in the ambulance. She says she’ll only go… if you stay with her.”
