Out-Of-Placers #216

Viracroix refers to Kass as "him," as he  views Kass as his man on the inside, so to speak; a man of Ivenmoth  playing a necessary role, which just happens to be female as a consequence. Vizlet uses "she," as Kass was already female by the time they first met.

Vizlet remembers the smek fight.

ComicTF

Mm, Vaults and Villains? Volcanoes and Virgins? Or, perhaps You mean 'Vizlet's Viracroix' ;)

Flora P-Stylianides

Thanks. I really like the world building and character development in your story. Lots of realistically complex people here. Even the stilt weasel ones.

John C Butler

Really good analysis here! Viracroix does indeed have the advantage of access to the o' company records.

Val Salia

"I'm just gonna stick this traumatic event over here in this box until I feel like dealing with it. Which will be never if I can help it."

John C Butler

My theory is that Viracroix wants to turn into a yinglet and have yinglet descendents!

Thorin N. Tatge

One way or another, the clams help

Val Salia

It's an agenda, with regular meetings in the break room on Sundays. There's coffee!

Val Salia

It's nice to have a buddy you can talk to about the issues with The Peasantry

Val Salia

They are in a long-running V&V campaign

Val Salia

Not much reason to come up with a grammatical rule until the moment the need for it actually appears!

Val Salia

Oh boy are there some biggo reveals coming up soon.

Val Salia

"Still a ying, eh" "Yup" "How bout some eggs" "Nope"

Val Salia

Yeah, he's definitely had to build up a lotta resilience before The Incident! The coping mechanisms he developed might not be the healthiest, but are definitely effective.

Val Salia

Random follow on thoughts. I think Varicroix's optimism and Vislet's pessimism can be explained by what each of them knows about Kass. In Vislet's case, she only knows the female Yinglet Kass she met the day after the transformation. Who was NOT in a good place mentally at the time. Vislet's concept of "human Kass" is probably some vauge idea of a low level Ivenmoth grunt. The sort of person who becomes a General Recruit because they don't have many other options. Which is admittedly true, as far as it goes. On the other hand, you can bet a bucket of clams that as soon as the Tradmaster realized the little Rat Princess he met for the first time was one of his men, he would have bent every resource on finding out everything he could about Kassen Akoll. At this point, he's had two weeks for his intelligence network to dig up everything they can on Kass. And I think the Tradmaster's optimism is based on what he found out. He would have found out about Kass'family history, education background and would have discovered Kass was actually a tough, resourceful and compassionate person who tended to go above and beyond. There's also the fact that he would have found out about Kass' family and his saying Kass couldn't hide his origins forever might be because the Tradmaster's plan is to reunite Kass and some of his family to keep Kass from going all in on being a Yinglet, at least culturally.

John C Butler

What a lovely couple! I'd like to have earned the right to stroke her ear. "A few very bad days from gorging on clams and reclusing from ze world, perhaps. But not until ze day we die... for a few very good days would take us back! At least, zat is what I zhink."

Thorin N. Tatge

She would be an interesting choice, she’s the only one we don’t know much about while wanting to keep it a secret. For V, it could all be a power play to get in good with those kind.

Super Shanko

I’m convinced that there’s some sort of agenda to acquire The Thing as a means for Viz to become human.

Super Shanko

I’ve been thinking it’s Isher this whole time, but who knows apart from Val 🤷

Autumn Minnchilla

Oh, hey, me too! We should be friends

Flora P-Stylianides

Pretty much everybody in this comic is making things up as they go.

Matthias Preissl

I remain convinced that the marriage candidate Viracroix has mentioned is in fact Vizlet.

Matthias Preissl

Love to see Viracroix and Viz getting some time together. I'm going to keep demanding those blueprints.

Thomas Halpin

Gods, those two are perfect for each other.

Flora P-Stylianides

Well written. I especially like how the Trademaster doesn't seem bothered by the idea of shifting pronouns for Kass, just a bit confused, as it's likely he's never encountered the concept of such things changing (and on top of species as well lol).

Ngrasta

I love the character exploration, but I'm kind of hoping for some reveals soon. Personally I'm hoping the baxxid know about the artifacts and because of their weird sensory organs can 'see' that Kass was affected by one and one of them just drops that info off-handedly. Off-clawily. Whatever. Either way I want an homage to the intro of Baxxids page with everyone collectively going "WHAT?" so loudly it disturbs the same series of people in town.

Max Last

It'll be nice to see Kass and Viz have a nice sit down together in private to just let the thoughts out about stuff.

Super Shanko

Random thoughts. If Kass had been someone who had enjoyed a fairly ordinary life with no real adversity, being transformed into a Yinglet probably would have broken him. Butt Kass hasn't enjoyed an ordinary life free of adversity. He's lost his home, his family and has suffered through fighting in a war on the losing side and all the horrors that go with that. He does have the advantage of having had an above average education, which is definitely helping him in his current situation. I also think it is damned interesting that Varicroix and Vislet are both basically operating on old data. Kass has decided to pick herself up and get on with life and focus on being useful. I really want to see a conversation between Kass and Vislet before the Matriarch leaves the Teeth here.
