December vote sketch #1: Snowlet
Added 2017-12-19 17:22:30 +0000 UTCHaving originally evolved in high-heat marshlands, it will take yinglets a fair amount of time to evolve the traits necessary to survive further North; currently, the Val Salian enclave is the furthest North major colony for their species.
Obviously, a thicker coat would be necessary, and long, thick eyelashes plus a squintier eye shape to keep the strong, cold winds from freezing their normally exposed and bulbous eyeballs. Temperature-resistant, webbed feet allow them to trod across snowed surfaces, instead of immediately sinking through it and freezing.
It might take a while for them to reach this point, but few environments are unlivable to an enclave that spends generations breeding selectively for a specific environment!

2017-12-19 23:55:40 +0000 UTCI imagine if anyone can evolve traits like this in a hurry, it's yinglets, with their natural bounty of genetic diversity built right in. Plus, as Val points out, enclaves and do breed quite selectively since access to females is so carefully controlled. Even if they aren't making a conscious decision to favor certain traits, I would think yinglets' social structure means the physically fittest among them have more offspring to a greater extent than most creatures, especially other people.
