Let’s talk about the World of Modding and Hypocrites.

For those who have been either following or supporting me here on Patreon since September 2020, you know very well that I am and have been exceedingly acting with transparency about the content that I post and or share with you. There are three (3) kinds of content in which I made sure that I explained them all very well, and about how everything works.

Let us go through this together,

1 – Public Modpacks: those are mods that I got from free sources (Nexus and 3DM mods), and I upload them all here in a backup folder which serves for both me and you. Sometimes those free websites will eventually remove one mod or another due to virus, DMCA claims, Nudity or any other issue. This backup is the way that I found in which I uploaded all the content that I liked and left them there for you and me, in case we need to download something that is no longer available on another website.

- Do I get any credits from that? NO

- Do I get any money from that? NO, I actually spend money monthly by paying cloud serves to keep them there. (this money spent comes from supporters)

- Do I remove the credits from those who made or created them? NO, it is, and it has always been listed here on Patreon since September 2020.

I do not gain or receive anything in exchange for that, and I do not want anything from something that I did not work, but it only serve it as a backup for all of us.

2 – Patreon’s Modpacks: those are mods from paid sources that I bought with my hard-earned money from my actual work. Since I bought the game and the mods, I can do with them whatever I desire. At the moment my desire is to share those mods with all my monthly supporters as an appreciation for their continuing support. That is why I call it as bonus mods.

3 – My actual modding work (Public & Paid):

Those are the modifications that I make here on Patreon in which you will not find anywhere else. I get the sources that I have (free and / or paid) and create something new, or improve its quality. After that, I decide whether publish it for all the public or restrict it to supporters only. Very often I post it for both, or one for each.

I do not make everything public for two (2) reasons, the 1st is because Patreon does not allow nudity to be posted open to public, but rather for paid supporters only. I have tested that multiple times, twice I got emails from Patreon itself requesting me remove a content from public access because it cannot contain nudity for free. The 2nd is because there are mods that I spend a lot of time working on them by adding lots of patches  and / or fixing glitches.

All my work that is paid is extremely accessible, with $3.50 you can have access to everything except paid commissions and backups from years ago.

Why I decided to make this post in form of statement and transparency.

There are Modders in which they claim that ' their work is being stolen ' by other people such as accusing me for that. It is interesting seeing this kind of accusation coming from people who (are like myself), make profit from digital assets that do not belong to them and without any rights to do so.

Let me explain that,

CAPCOM does not allow Modders to make any profit from their original products and services. We (Modders) can create content for free, but we are not allowed to make profit from it. Nevertheless, people still create content and put them behind paywalls to make profit from it. The reason is because nobody wants to create stuff for free.

Let us make a final reflection,

1 – Is it right that a person who is not allowed to make profit from digital assets that depends on products from other company (CAPCOM) even though the company says, “do not make profit from them”, but they do not care and continue to do so? What do you think?

2 – Is it right to claim that a content is “being stolen” but in fact, they cannot be stolen since the creator still have access to their content and they can continually to sell them to their customers?

For as far as we know once things are stolen from someone, it means that the person lost it completely and no longer have access to it.

I cannot get my car stolen by someone and continually to drive it. How is that even possible? Am I driving an invisible car? I suppose that, maybe the thief stole my car, but they left its shadow, so I can continually drive it.

Lastly,

- Do Modders own the game characters? NO

- Can we play games without mods? YES

- Can we play with the mods without the game? NO

In other words, all these mods have no true value since they cannot be used without the original product from its true creator, in this case CAPCOM’s Properties.

If CAPCOM ever decide to block them all,  every single mod will no longer be useful. We are lucky that CAPCOM is not like NINTENDO or any other super restrict company that sue every one who plays with their properties.

About Credits to Authors:

Since I started my Patreon, I have, and I will always give credits to the Modder creators who made the main mods  and / or the sources that I used. I made it very clear on all my posts and I have added an extra file with all the information about the modifications that made without compromising the original work.

How can I be a thief if its all listed there?

- Is it because I bought all my mods with my hard-earned money and decide to share it as a bonus to my supporters due to they support my actual modding work?

- OR is it because I did not ask any Modder’s “permission” to either modify their mods or share them with who I want?

If not asking permission is wrong, then why do Modders still sell their shit without asking permission from CAPCOM?

To whoever calls me a thief, GO FUCK YOURSELF.

I will continue to give credits to all the Modder's when using or modifying their work. Whether they like me or hate me. I do not care.

And finally,

Thank you all who have supported me either by only following or financially. You have my eternal gratitude!

Thank you my friend for the heartwarming words and for your support! I am happy to know that I am able to bring some joy to all of you.

Thomas

I come and go from time to time due to finances and whatnot. But I personally just believe you’re a wonderful creator and creation sharer. Mods are in nature a work of art. And I enjoy it. 😊

Andrew Jackson

Thank you my friend for staying with me during all this time and also for your words. I really appreciate it.

Well said! And about 3dm mods, I have made lots of re-works from there. I can easily recognize when a mod is from nexus or when it is from paid wall. I have supported so many creators since before I started my Patreon. Unconsciously, I memorized all body and mod styles from each one of the most famous modders for RE games. There is one ' mod creator ' that I wish I could find their contact to talk to, named as Crazy YD. He / She made some cool things using arison_c mods / body. I liked them very much, I even made some re-works from those mods since they were too simple. Thank you once again.

Thomas

teach me this i would like some ideas made xD

All i can say is: im with you for 2 years (in fact it will be 2 years on April Fools 2023 so its tomorrow) and you give more than you take for all this time. Thats not how thiefs act, in fact if anyone can be called thief - they are modders who ask outrageous ammount of money for their every fetishist dream mods. We all know their names and price lists ;) and while we all enjoy their work its sometimes cheapper to find someone who dont know what is Resident Evil but will do „mod on demand”.

i do appreciate your honesty and a fairly health discussing that we are having, i do have to disagree on the console thing though, while yes consoles have huge sales, steam rivals if not outright defeats console sales, this is why even sony wants to double dip with epic and steam with their first party exclusives, Believe me the pc scene is absolutely massive. And while i cant disagree on stolen assets being reused without permission by modders, some modders i feel do make their own assets from scratch or buy them where the bought product states something similar to "you buy this you can own this and use it to your desires and make profit of of it, it is yours once you buy it" this being an immediate explicit right to ownership on purchase aka permission. For stolen stuff yeah thats bad, and i guess i dont really know 3dm too well but im sure some of them are real and post for free, for example leon to ada is on that site as v3.0 but was taken down on nexus when someone uploaded a v1.0. This modding thing is a muddy scene it would be nice if we got more organized and protected all this so we dont fight each other while billion dollar industries profit on us lol.... us= modding community both consumers and creators.

Lastly, I will not delete your comment since you were very educated and only shared your point of view. In fact, I myself, I am grateful for that since I see it as a true opinion and feedback. (I forgot to add that I totally agree with your last statement.) Thank you for your true feedback and support.

Thomas

1 - Yes, I do agree that the mods certainly boosts the sales of a game, that is true. However, most sales always comes from consoles since they are able to sell it physical and digital. Nowadays, nobody buys games for PC that is physical. Also, if the game is a console exclusive it would still sell a lot. We can see that from Sony's games. So the fact that mods does not provide true value because it requires the main game, remains the ultimate truth. 2 - There is a difference in modifying, resell, steal and share. I have always stated here that I do not resell other people's mods, that I do not steal people's work but in fact always gives them the credit. If I make a mod here and you share with a friend, can I call you a thief ? If you get a mod from me, modify for yourself and share it, can I call you a thief ? The answer is NO. There are people out there which removes the credits and then resell as if they had created themselves, that is certain. I am not that kind of person. 3 - If other modders do not get explicit permission from Capcom to sell stuff to make profit over Capcom's properties, then why should I ask modders permission to share their stuff ? Think about it. 4 - 3dm mods is a chinese " pirate website " , half of the mods available there comes from pay walled both with and without modifications. I have seen mods from creators such as arison_c, slumpx, dedraz and so on. 5 - The only reason I used Hypocrisy is due to some modders believe that they are the Centre of the universe by selling many 3D ready made assets edited by them without giving credits to where they bought or got and then complain if someone else shares or modify what they modified first. They require people's asking for permission, but themselves do not have.

Thomas

its not a bad argument but i do see some flaws, capcom profits from this because amazing mods drive sales as owning the game legitimately is a must, so in a sense capcom loves putting their games out on pc due the the fact that they sell like hotcakes due to modding scene, bethesda knows this too. Even capcom dlc sell well because they are needed as replacements for mods lol. Another flaw i would like to point out is that while you did pay for the mods to do with as you please you are not, to give a clear example to be understood here, reselling them IE buy capcom game crack it and resell it because you can do with it as you please due to buying it. Tell me if im not on the ball here. Now being a storage service that offers mods as packs for free is actually a noble cause. So unless all mods are provided free even if you paid for them, you are taking sales away from the authors who would otherwise be the ones profiting from their own work. So i feel you would need to market your strategy a little different as you should get paid for keeping all these mods on a server forever. Or get a nice physical drive and upload to people as needed. And final point i would like to make, if you got explicit permission from original author to go ahead and do this, well then go ahead by credit said permission publicly. I know that 3dmmod site has many mods that ARE offered free, and ASK not to be reuploaded anywhere else. As one example, another example is, nexus mods, will keep uploads possibly forever so that is generally a service that does what you are trying to and also runs on donations. So the hypocrisy can not exist. Im well aware this comment may be deleted because i provide far too many valid counterpoints but you know. Food for thought. And i do want to make this clear i am not hating here i just want us to have a nice appreciated fairly treated modding community because without these talented amazing people we would have nothing
