Hello hello! I hope everyone is doing well!
This post is going to be the first update for Who Are: The Greater Draconians! In it, I'll discuss some of how combat and leveling will work, as well as showcase some of the first enemies you'll face off against - goblins!
Over the past couple weeks, I've been working on how to best integrate combat mechanics into the game without resorting to the standard "battle enemies; gain experience" type of system we've all played a thousand times at this point. Currently, combat will work something like this:
(Optionally) sneak up on an enemy by approaching them from behind while you are shrunk (which is something you'll be able to do)
Begin the "Investigation" part of the battle via body exploration
Collect "insight" on the enemy by walking along their body and finding weaknesses/vulnerabilities
Initiate standard RPGMaker Battle either by being detected, or by conducting a surprise attack on an enemy who hasn't noticed you yet
(Optionally) spend the insight you gained during the investigation segment to give you an advantage during the fight, or save it for a reward post-battle
This is, in a nutshell, what I'm shooting for, with some additional elements thrown in, such as enemies damaging you during the investigation phase, or the risk of being detected too fast. There's a prototype video attached to this post loosely showing off what I have in mind for the body exploration.
As for the goblins, I plan on having them be one of the main "fodder" enemies in the game, with graphics created in Koikatsu, as opposed to premade sprites, like I've used in the past. Additionally, there will be femboy goblins (like the one on the left in the post's images), because why not? That said, these will be optional enemies that can be turned off if the player isn't interested in that sort of content.
Alright, that's it for now! Progress has been a little slower recently as I work through some real-life things, but I'm still going to shoot for biweekly updates again as a way of keeping myself honest with you lot.
