HDC Ver. 0.1 Progress Update #7

Hey hey, and good [insert your time of day here]! c:

So! Since it's been two weeks, I've got a few more things to talk about than usual regarding the next update! I'll try and keep the post to its normal (long) length, but no promises! ;)

Going back to update #6, one of the topics I shared was how I wanted the victory and defeat branches to split into their own unique pathways before reconverging later. This is still the case, and the last two weeks have been a mix of writing, eventing, and A LOT of rendering related to it! At the moment, there are exactly 30 graphics tied to the defeat branch, with more to come.

In addition to the character-focused images, I wanted to try to expand the number of backgrounds I had available to me to help improve variety. For anyone who's played games made in RPGMaker before, you'd probably recognize the images I'd been using as my backgrounds up to this point. These are the default assets that come with MV when you purchase it, which I feel was fine for a while, but not forever, and not exclusively. As such, I spent a bit of time over the past week creating a couple of simple forest backgrounds to allow for some visual diversity.

Apart from the visuals, there's also been quite a lot of progress made in deepening the dynamics that exist between characters, such as the relationship Katia (the blue-haired girl) has with Rita and Ashton. Given that the game begins right at the end of the 107th's training, I wanted to continue to reinforce the idea that these characters have known each other for some time, with their behavior being reflective of it.

As a side note, I'm happy to say that the writing block I had a few weeks ago has been decisively squished, and I've got a pretty clear image of where to take 0.1 going forward. There haven't been any insurmountable hiccups in terms of story or dialogue since then.
