General Update (February 3, 2025)

Hiya! Good to see you all again~! (THIS POST ENDED UP BEING QUITE LONG! SORRY! T_T)

This update is going to cover a slightly different range of topics, hence the "General Update" as opposed to "HDC Progress Update" naming scheme. Don't worry - I'm still working on Ver. 0.1, but it's another week of mostly eventing and writing, so I'm going to share some of the other things I've been chipping away at instead!

One minor item I've been itching to redo are the HDC Discord emojis, which are pretty underwhelming at the moment. At present, these are just the character expressions from the game reused on the server, which they were not designed for. So, I've been going through and redoing them to make them fit better visually.

Mimi, Astrid, and Rita have already been redone (shown above), with Gale and Ashton still needing to be completed. I'm going to finish these up either tonight or tomorrow and upload the updated versions to the server in bulk as soon as they're ready!

The second subject I wanted to mention is that I'm going to work with my friend, hmal (also known as Slough on Eka's), to get public releases of HDC on Vorecade, which is an app-like hub for games containing content similar to what you see in The Hylann Defense Corps. I can't see any reason not to, and I'm more than happy to give a little something back to a friend who's helped me a good deal since releasing Ver. 0.0! Go take a peek sometime - you might see a game you've never played before!

Lastly, I kind of wanted to get a weigh in on some other ideas I've had in mind regarding future content. The biggest of which being the creation of "comics" both in the HDC "universe" and out. The closest comparison would be the work of talented creators like CroxKoi, JellyTea, and SourceSizeShenanigans, among others.

It's still just an idea, but I can see costs and benefits to trying something like this out. Either way, I'm curious to hear what you all think! I'll set up a poll here in a bit to start gathering some feedback on it (and because I want to run a poll since I haven't yet :P).
