You weren’t supposed to leave the guest room.

Tiffany made that clear with her tone. Calm, clipped, as if she were issuing instructions to a hotel maid, not a person. “Stay put. Don’t snoop. Don’t touch anything that isn’t yours.” Reasonable enough. You didn’t plan to disobey. You never do. But then again, you rarely plan to humiliate yourself either, and somehow, that always happens too.

You weren’t invited tonight. Not really. You were a last-minute replacement, someone’s pity-date who didn’t know the dress code. You showed up in a t-shirt and jeans. Tiffany barely looked at you, but you still caught the smirk behind her eyes.

Then the storm hit. The event was canceled. Everyone left. Everyone except you.

Now you’re stuck in her house because she doesn't want to be held responsible if you crash trying to make it home.

And the book? The book doesn’t lie. Ever.

The book was on a side table in the upstairs study. Leather-bound. Ornate. It looked important, so naturally, you touched it. And naturally, it opened for you like it had been waiting. It was a diary. Written in your voice. But strange handwriting.

This was delicate, slanted, feminine script. The kind you’d expect on a thank-you card or a love letter. It chronicled your thoughts, your feelings, your failures…only it didn’t ask for your input. It already knew. It was pure magic. It knew what you were, what you weren’t, what you kept trying to become and always failed to reach.

You were caught being sneaky. You weren't supposed to read it, but you couldn't help it. The strange thing is that every single page was written from your point of view. It was as if someone had magically taken every single thought you ever had, and then written it down and dated it. You were shocked at the accuracy, and you couldn't stop flipping the pages.

But then your host walked in. Pissed. Normal for her, she always tried to help you but…Why were you getting into her heirlooms? What is your problem?

Then she reads a few pages, and everything becomes clear. She finally knows what's wrong with you, and what can be done to help you become better. And you wouldn't even think about trying to stop her, because you know the truth and you need this. You want her to help you. You need her to.
