I was in tears a few nights ago when 'Remember my name' was released, it just blew me away and made some grief come out after my Granddad passed recently. What I'd add too to your discussions about his unique songwriting and how it connects to people is that it's so Geordie and North East England, obviously with the number of place names, football references and phrases like 'fast as a whippet' (greyhound racing is very big in Northern England), and his accent which makes some words like 'home' so distinctive. Lots of people even from other parts of the UK won't understand what he's talking about occasionally without looking it up, so I don't think the language should be an issue in resonating with people across the pond, like it hasn't with you both. He's a huge icon in north Shields and Newcastle itself and that connection to place, home and the people there just brings soul to the music like Bruce does too. He used the brass band of a local mining village in that final track and that just says everything. Keep making albums Sam.
